Many people associate radiology with "checking for broken bones" but it is MUCH more than that. Radiology imaging IS used to diagnose fractures, but can also identify numerous cancers and diseases throughout the body, is sometimes used to assist surgeons during a procedure, and the list goes on. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but these 'pictures' can paint a story of health worth so much more!

At our September Sterling Connection Brunch, CMH radiology staff will share information about the tests and imaging services offered here and the importance of radiology safety.

For more information about the Sterling Connection group or to sign up for the September brunch, please contact Pam Harrison at 785-562-2311.

When you pull out your suitcase and decide what to pack for your upcoming trip, do you also think about planning for your medical needs when you're away from home? Sure, we pack any medications we will need, but do we ever consider other things--will my health insurance work where I'm going?...do I know my medical history information if I'm asked to provide it?...if I lose or forgot to pack some of my medications, how do I get them filled elsewhere?

Having a plan in place for your healthcare needs when traveling is just as important as knowing exactly how many pairs of shoes can fit in your suitcase. Join Dayna Scheele on a stroll around the park and learn how to be healthcare savvy on your next trip! REMINDER - this month is an EVENING walk at 5:30 PM.

Please take a moment to complete the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment Survey. It considers all aspects of health and wellness in our county, not just here at the hospital level. Your input will provide direction for discussion at the CHNA town hall meeting in September on what is important to you.

The August Sterling Connection Brunch will feature our IT team who will walk us through the CMH patient portal MyCareCorner. They will also have computers on-site to assist anyone who would like to get signed up. In addition to access of your medical information, a new billing system coming soon will also allow patients to view their statements and pay bills through the patient portal. Whether you are already signed up and use it like a pro, are signed up but just not sure where to find your information, or want to get signed up, we would love for you to join us!

Our walking group may have been small this morning (maybe the early morning rumbles of thunder had everyone sleeping in to catch a few extra ZZZZ's) but we had a great time!

Becky Heuer, APRN, got us summer safety prepared with great tips on:
UTV Safety: watch speed; wear seatbelts; don't ride with small children on laps.
Water Safety: learn how to swim; be aware of your surroundings and the weather; remember that life guards are there to protect your children from accidents...not to babysit them, so always make sure young children are supervised.
Heat Safety: stay well hydrated with water or sport drinks and avoid alcohol; when working in the heat, take a 10-minute break every hour to remove yourself from the heat; when a person is no longer sweating when in the heat, they are in trouble.

Enjoy the summer but be safe out there! If you do find yourself suffering from an injury or heat exposure, seek medical care from your healthcare provider or our emergency department.

Your Community Health Connection

Community Memorial Healthcare (CMH) in Marysville, Kansas, has touched the lives of neighbors, families, and friends for over 60 years. Opening its doors in March of 1958 as a private, non-profit hopsital, CMH has expanded its services through the years and has grown in the number of people it serves in Marshall and surrounding counties. Today, CMH is a 25-bed critical access hospital which receives no tax support and provides healthcare for over 10,000 residents in northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska, regardless of ability to pay. As the second-largest employer in Marysville, CMH has a combined salary and benefits impact of nearly $11 million each year.

CMH offers emergency, acute care, obstetrics, surgical, ancillary, and outpatient services in addition to three rural health clinics, home health services, a durable medical equipment store, and contract services of physical, occupational and speech therapies, dialysis clinic, and anesthesia.

With over 200 employees, 7 family practitioners, 6 nurse practitioners, a surgeon, a certified nurse anesthetist, and a host of volunteers, CMH shares a commitment to providing quality care for people living and working in Marshall and surrounding counties. Its outpatient referral clinic offers a wide range of specialty services provided by over 37 physicians from Manhattan, KS, and Lincoln, NE.

CMH is the only hospital in Marshall County and is a safety net provider of healthcare services to the county and surrounding areas. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year providing care and services to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. Each year the hospital provides over $1 million in uncompensated care.
