First graders at Marysville Elementary School have been learning about the human body in class, everything from the heart and vascular system to the bones that make up their skeleton. MES teachers, Courtney Frink and Kinsey Smith, reached out to see if the students could visit CMH to get an in-person perspective of what they learned in the classroom. We are always thrilled for the opportunity to interact with kids and share what we do here, so of course our answer was “YES”! On Wednesday, students came for a visit and got to test their handwashing abilities with our blacklight germ finder, use their skills to identify different objects on x-ray, and saw their veins magically appear using a vein finder tool. Staff were amazed at how much these first graders already knew about the human body from their classroom studies! Thank you to Courtney and Kinsey for allowing us to be a part of your learning program and thank you to CMH staff members, Kate, Jessie, Deb, and Vicki for taking students through their journey here as well as Heather and Madison in dietary for the snacks.

Community Memorial Healthcare (CMH) in Marysville, Kansas, has touched the lives of neighbors, families, and friends for over 60 years. Opening its doors in March of 1958 as a private, non-profit hopsital, CMH has expanded its services through the years and has grown in the number of people it serves in Marshall and surrounding counties. Today, CMH is a 25-bed critical access hospital which receives no tax support and provides healthcare for over 10,000 residents in northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska, regardless of ability to pay. As the second-largest employer in Marysville, CMH has a combined salary and benefits impact of nearly $11 million each year.
CMH offers emergency, acute care, obstetrics, surgical, ancillary, and outpatient services in addition to three rural health clinics, home health services, a durable medical equipment store, and contract services of physical, occupational and speech therapies, dialysis clinic, and anesthesia.
With over 200 employees, 7 family practitioners, 6 nurse practitioners, a surgeon, a certified nurse anesthetist, and a host of volunteers, CMH shares a commitment to providing quality care for people living and working in Marshall and surrounding counties. Its outpatient referral clinic offers a wide range of specialty services provided by over 37 physicians from Manhattan, KS, and Lincoln, NE.
CMH is the only hospital in Marshall County and is a safety net provider of healthcare services to the county and surrounding areas. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year providing care and services to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. Each year the hospital provides over $1 million in uncompensated care.
CMH is comprised of the main hospital, South Plaza building, and three medical clinics (located in Blue Rapids, Marysville, and Wymore, NE). Their mission, “To excel at caring for you,” represents a fusion of healing and compassion that represents CMH’s commitment to meeting the community’s healthcare needs. Learn more at www.cmhcare.org.
