Heavy heavy heart today as another wonderful person is fighting the last cancer fight 🙏 if you have a moment today pray for those affected by this awful diagnosis. Pray for their caregivers and families that watch but can do absolutely nothing. Pray for peace and understanding. Pray specifically for no pain.
Thankful to know the end is really just the beginning😇

Meet Ashley Merrick, one of our 2025 Heroes in Hats! 🎩💗

Ashley is a breast cancer survivor whose journey didn’t end with her own treatment. Out of her experience, she created a business to help other cancer patients — offering cold capping services so they could walk their own path with dignity and confidence.

Through her personal journey and the journeys of the patients she stands beside every day, Ashley has seen firsthand how great the need is for support. She knows the toll cancer can take, not just physically, but emotionally and financially.

Now, Ashley is taking it one step further — stepping forward as a Hero to raise $5,000 this October for the Cancer Patient Resource Fund. Her mission is simple: to ensure no patient fights alone and that help is there when they need it most.

Haslam alumnus Cohl Morgan (HCB, ’19) turned his battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma into a mission: launching the Vols Beat Cancer scholarship endowment to help fellow Volunteers diagnosed with cancer.

The scholarship will award $1,000 annually to eligible UT students and is designed to grow as more donors join the cause.

Our team, comprised of several survivors, is passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

**Position Summary:**
We are looking for a Capping Specialist who embodies the spirit of our community—someone who can provide not only technical support but also emotional encouragement to new cancer patients. This role is perfect for someone seeking a side hustle that allows them to make a difference while working alongside others who understand their journey.

**Responsibilities:**
- Provide cold cap therapy to patients during chemotherapy sessions, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Offer emotional support and share personal experiences to help patients feel understood and cared for.
- Set up and maintain cold cap equipment with attention to detail.
- Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for patients, treating them like family.

**Qualifications:**
- Personal experience with cancer treatment, especially chemotherapy (preferred but not required).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and travel within a 2-hour radius.
- Strong punctuality and dependability.
- Empathetic and caring demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
- A genuine desire to support and uplift others during their treatment journey.
