A Remarkable Story of Survival — And the Power of Having a Community Hospital Close to Home
When Brian Sweet arrived in the Anderson Hospital Emergency Department on September 3, he was in grave condition after suffering a massive heart attack at home. His survival began with his wife’s quick CPR and the rapid response of Collinsville first responders — but it was the immediate, expert care available right here in our community that made the difference.
Because Anderson Hospital and its cardiac cath team were close by and ready, Brian received life-saving intervention within minutes of arriving. Our Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Lab team, and Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Farah worked urgently to stabilize him and place a critical Impella heart pump — a step that gave Brian the best possible chance before he was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital for advanced care.
What followed was a 15-day fight marked by extraordinary resilience, skilled teams across multiple hospitals, and a recovery that amazed even his physicians.
Today, Brian is walking, spending time with family, and embracing life — a powerful reminder of why having a strong community hospital like Anderson matters. Without rapid access to local, high-level emergency and cardiac care, stories like Brian’s might have very different outcomes.

🌟 Congratulations to Kayla Brown, RN — March of Dimes Heroes in Action Nominee! 🌟
We are proud to celebrate Kayla Brown, an extraordinary OB nurse who has dedicated the past 3.5 years to caring for moms and babies on the night shift at Anderson Hospital's Pavilion for Women.
Her compassionate care, steady presence, and commitment to her patients make her a true hero within our walls.
But Kayla’s talents don’t stop at the bedside — they stretch all the way to the marathon finish line. 🏃‍♀️💨
Kayla has completed more than 15 marathons, most recently dominating the Dayton Air Force Marathon, where she was the fastest woman, finishing in an incredible 2:57:33. Her discipline and drive make her a standout both on the unit and on the course.
Please join us in congratulating Kayla on her March of Dimes Heroes in Action nomination 💜👏

🎄❤️ A Very Special Thank You to Betty Scaggs! ❤️🎄

Each December, our newest arrivals go home with a beautiful, handmade holiday stocking — a beloved Anderson tradition that brings joy to our families during their most memorable moments.

We are incredibly grateful to Betty Scaggs, who has lovingly sewn every single stocking for years. Betty has been a dedicated Auxiliary volunteer since 1999, and her steady hands and generous heart make this tradition possible year after year. It truly is a labor of love.

This annual gift is also supported by a generous donation from our Medical Staff, which covers the embroidery and materials that make each stocking so special.

To Betty, to our Medical Staff, and to everyone who helps make the season brighter for our December newborns — thank you. Your kindness means more than you know. ❤️✨
