🌻Hope Can Emerge from Beneath the Cracks💔
We all know the feeling, but it remains hard to describe. Is it “spider senses”? Intuition? Or simply being in the right place at the right time?
Regardless of what you call it, when something is “off”, leaders dive deep and get to the root of the problem!
Although the sun was shining🌞, a heavy burden🥺was present. A 12-year-old student-athlete appeared disconnected and stressed to the breaking point. Asked to check-in on the boy during lunch, I struck up a conversation that quickly revealed a child in distress. The boy’s response used the words “hopeless”, “nothing to live for”, and an inability to be joyful.
🆘He insisted that he was “fine” but all I heard was a young man who was drowning and was in desperate need of a lifeline🛟.
The question, “Are you thinking about killing yourself?” had to be asked.
Far too many people are scared to ask this lifesaving question.
What will they say? What will they think? Will I plant the thought of su***de?
Thankfully, we were able to recognize the warning signs, ask the question, persuade him, and refer the boy to the appropriate medical care.
