Abby Ross, RDH, is a local Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist who helps children and adults develop healthy oral habits, breathing, swallowing, and dental growth. With her background in dental hygiene and hands-on therapy experience, Abby works directly with patients to address challenges like mouth breathing, tongue posture, swallowing difficulties, airway concerns, and functional tongue ties, all things that can affect dental development, sleep, and overall health.

She supports families from the very beginning: helping with infant feeding, guiding parents through healthy oral development in toddlers and young children, assisting teens during orthodontic treatment, and working with adults who have airway or oral function concerns.

Abby’s approach is supportive, educational, and family-centered. She provides local, accessible care, so families don’t have to travel to bigger cities for this specialized therapy. She also collaborates with dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, speech therapists, and other healthcare providers to make sure every child and adult receives complete, team-based care.

Through personalized therapy and practical guidance, Abby helps families build healthy habits that support proper oral function, swallowing, breathing, dental development, and long-term wellness.

Myofunctional therapy focuses on how the mouth, tongue, and facial muscles work together. Paying attention to patterns like:

Thinking about a frenectomy? Don’t skip the myofunctional therapy! 👅✨

Both patient presented with different symptoms, chief concerns, frenum attachments and muscular weaknesses, all had different symptoms.

📌 Two patients were able to have procedure with a highly trained airway focused and tongue tie specialized dentist. One patient needed to see ENT with training in airway and tongue ties due to complexity of case!

📌Each patient needed different amount of sessions of pre work before being cleared for a release.

Every patient is unique and their care plan is personalized to reflect this with the same end goals in mind! A frenectomy is just one piece of the puzzle. Myofunctional therapy helps prepare the muscles before and retrain them after the procedure to support proper tongue posture, swallowing, breathing, and speech. 💪

Happy 4th of July from Northwest Myofunctional Therapy! 🇺🇸

So excited for my patients as we go into a new month! Several big wins in June and I can’t wait to see their progress continue.

Some wins include but not limited to:

-3 successful tongue tie releases with symptoms of hyperactivity, picky eating significantly reduced, instant tension in jaw joints and neck gone 🤯
-2 releases avoided 👏🏼
- treated the root cause of tongue thrust/open bit relapse (deviated septum 👃)
-better quality of sleep 😴
- gave parents tools for kids too young for therapy to still support them at home and got referrals to the correct providers for their age 👶🏼🍼
-big break throughs in a very timid patient coming out of her shell 👯‍♀️

🙌🏻 So many more wins to come in July for these patients and more! Therapy is not always a straight line sometimes it requires other interventions and sometimes it can help avoid them.
