Marjorie Jean Clemmer, age 98, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at home. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church on Montvale Road. Marjorie loved Ohio State football. She was Second Chair in the Violin Ohio State Orchestra. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, reading and physical fitness. James (Jimmy) Caton McMahan, age 80, passed away at Blount Memorial Hospital on January 31, 2026. Jimmy was born and raised in the Wildwood community and was a 1963 graduate of Porter High School. He retired after 30 years of working at Alcoa Aluminum. He also owned and operated his own business, McMahan’s Plants and Produce. Larry Julian Taylor, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. He was born on April 17,1938, in Maryville, Tennessee, to Lloyd Edward and Herdage Baker Taylor. Four Chaplains Day honors the four chaplains aboard the SS Dorchester during WWII. The Dorchester, a troop ship carrying approximately 900, was struck by a German U-boat on February 3, 1943. The 4 Chaplains were a Methodist minister, Reformed Church minister, a Rabbi, and a Catholic Priest. After handing out out all of the remaining life jackets to the soldiers and helping them board the lifeboats, the 4 chaplains linked arms, sang hymns, and said prayers as they went down with the ship.
