In 2025, Jeremi Dierenfeldt, a registered nurse in Medical Oncology at Mosaic Cancer Care, and his wife, Danielle, entered the Iron Ticket Contest, a challenge from famed actor and former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fitness app, The Pump Club. “I’ve been a massive Arnold Schwarzenegger fan since I was a kid,” Jeremi says. “Working out with him has truly been a bucket list goal of mine for a long time.”

When Jeremi found out he won, he was stunned. “I couldn’t believe it,” he says. “I had worked very hard for this; I envisioned it, and when it became a reality, I was absolutely on Cloud Nine.”

The Mosaic Cardiovascular team met a milestone by completing its 500th transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure this month. 🥳🫀

We’re excited to continue to improve the level of heart care in our region with TAVR as well as other procedures and technology like cardiac scoring, coronary plaque analysis and more.

Traditional valve replacement procedures involve invasive open-heart surgery that separates the chest cavity. Instead, the TAVR replaces the valve using very small incisions in the groin. As a result, it provides a treatment option to people who may not have been considered good candidates for surgery or otherwise have limited choices for heart valve replacement.

“Seeing Allison care for a patient is truly inspiring. She tends to them as if they were her own family, offering warmth and understanding in every moment. Her empathy runs deep, and she has a way of making every patient feel genuinely loved, supported, and seen. There was a patient whom many people avoided. She was loud, disoriented, and not in her right mind, and caring for her made others feel uneasy. But Allison saw past all of that. She treated her as if she were her own family, slowing down, taking her time, and offering the tenderness this patient deserved. She suggested playing gospel music, and the moment it filled the room, the patient began to calm. Allison would gently touch her hand or shoulder, simple gestures that made the patient feel safe, cared for, and loved. Watching her care without a trace of judgment, only pure compassion, was profoundly inspiring. You can see in every moment she's in a patient's room that she was made to work in health care. She pours her heart into caring to every patient she comes across.”

Matt Gaarder came to Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville after years of living an active lifestyle – playing sports, running marathons and staying engaged with his family and business. But osteoarthritis in his right hip and both knees had taken a toll, with pain affecting every part of his life.

“Before the surgery, the pain in my right hip had taken over and life was so much harder. I wasn’t able to do a lot of activities with my family, including playing baseball with my teenage son – my favorite sport,” says Matt. “My productivity in my business was getting worse every day because of the pain. That’s what led to the emotional struggles. Life wasn’t what it should be, and I wasn’t as active as I should be at my age. It was tough.”

Matt chose Mosaic for its proximity to home, but it was the care and connection with the staff that made the decision easy. From his first appointment through surgery and recovery, Matt felt supported by the orthopedics team that worked seamlessly together.

“After working with the orthopedics staff and meeting Dr. Monahan, it was a no-brainer to get my care done at Mosaic in Maryville,” says Matt. “There was a friendly professionalism about everybody I worked with. I felt comfortable with the entire process because I had a sense they were there for me.”

His hip replacement surgery was a success. Despite the challenges of operating on strong bones, Dr. Monahan and the surgical team delivered excellent results.

“The joint pain I lived with for so long was gone. Yes, there was pain from the surgery itself, but it didn’t compare to what I had before – and that pain is getting better every day, not worse like it was before,” Matt added.

Recovery has gone smoothly, with support from Mosaic Outpatient Therapy - Maryville and quick responses to any concerns. What stood out most to Matt was the teamwork and communication he saw throughout the process – something that resonated deeply with his athletic background.

Did you know we hold a Sports Injury Walk-In clinic Monday-Friday for school aged children (13 & up, through college level)? It is from 8:00am-8:45am.

The sports injury does not have to be related to a school sanctioned sport (Those who do horseback riding, skating, etc. are welcome if age appropriate!)

Please be prepared to have xrays or other images needed for visit. If you are not a student, please call our office for a scheduled appointment or visit the Walk-In Clinic at 114 East South Hills Drive for urgent walk-in needs.
