A lot of federal employees are looking at VERA offers right now and thinking:

“Maybe this is my chance to finally step away.”

And honestly… I understand the appeal.

But before making a quick decision, it’s important to understand what early retirement actually changes long term.

Because VERA may allow you to retire earlier…

But it does NOT increase your pension formula.

That means:
• fewer years of service
• fewer high earning years
• and potentially a longer income gap before Social Security

All affect retirement income permanently.

I wrote a simple breakdown explaining:
• how VERA works
• what many employees overlook
• the SRS issue
• and why running the numbers matters before signing anything

The goal isn’t to scare anyone away from retirement.

It’s to make sure the decision feels informed and intentional.

If a VERA offer is on your radar, this article is worth reading:

A lot of people assume their FEGLI will just continue the same way into retirement.

That’s where many surprises begin.

I talk with federal employees all the time who enrolled years ago and never really looked at their coverage again.

Not because they were careless.

Because it felt handled.

But retirement changes things.

Costs can change.
Coverage options matter more.
And decisions that felt small years ago suddenly feel important.

Especially with Option B.

That’s why waiting until retirement paperwork shows up can create a lot of unnecessary stress.

I put together a simple article explaining what actually happens to FEGLI at retirement and what federal employees should review before decisions become urgent.

If retirement is getting closer, it’s worth a read:

A lot of people don’t review their FEGLI until retirement gets close.

Not because they don’t care.

Because it’s easy to assume it’s already taken care of.

It’s been there for years.
The deductions happen automatically.
Nothing feels urgent.

So it stays untouched.

Then retirement gets closer… and suddenly the questions start showing up.

What happens to my coverage?
Why are costs changing?
Do I still need all these options?
What happens if I make the wrong decision?

That’s the biggest FEGLI mistake I see.

Not choosing the wrong option years ago.

Waiting too long to review it.

I wrote a simple breakdown explaining why this happens and how federal employees can avoid making rushed decisions later.

If you’re getting closer to retirement, it’s worth a read:

Retirement should feel peaceful…

Not uncertain.

But for a lot of people, there’s still a quiet question in the background:

“Are we actually going to be okay?”

Not just financially.

But overall.

Will things feel stable?
Will decisions feel rushed?
Will one person be left trying to figure everything out alone?

That’s the part most retirement conversations miss.

It’s not just about income.

It’s about peace of mind.

About knowing that no matter what happens…

The person next to you is going to be okay.

Not scrambling.
Not stressed.
Not forced into tough decisions during a tough time.

Just… okay.

That kind of peace doesn’t come from guessing.

It comes from clarity.

From understanding what you have in place… and what it actually does.

What does peace of mind in retirement look like for you?

A lot of people carry life insurance into retirement…

Not because they’ve reviewed it.

Because it’s always been there.

It started years ago for a reason.

You had income to protect.
People depending on you.
A clear purpose behind it.

But over time…

Life changes.

And sometimes the coverage stays the same.

Not because it still fits.

Just because no one ever stopped to ask:

“Do I still need this?”

That’s not always an easy question.

Because it’s not just about money.

It’s about comfort.

It’s about not wanting to make the wrong decision.

So it gets pushed off.

“I’ll look at it later.”
“I should review that at some point.”

And time passes.

I wrote a simple breakdown on how to think about life insurance in retirement…

Without pressure.
Without overcomplicating it.

Just clarity.

If this has ever crossed your mind, it’s worth a read:

A lot of people don’t review their FEGLI…

Because it feels like it’s already taken care of.

I get it.

It’s set up once…
Comes out of your paycheck…
And it’s easy to leave it alone.

For a while, that works.

But over time, things change.

Retirement gets closer.
Costs start going up.
And sometimes it’s been so long, you’re not even sure what you have anymore.

That’s usually when I get questions.

Here are 3 signs it might be time to take a second look:

1. Retirement is getting closer
2. Your premiums keep increasing
3. You haven’t reviewed it in years

This doesn’t mean you need to make big changes.

Most of the time, it’s just about understanding what you have today.

Because small reviews now can prevent bigger surprises later.

If you want a second set of eyes on it, just message me.

FEGLI feels affordable… until it doesn’t.

That catches more people off guard than it should.

A lot of federal employees sign up early, leave it alone for years, and assume it will always stay about the same.

But later in life, premiums can rise, especially with Optional coverage.

That’s when people start asking questions they wish they asked sooner.

What do I actually have?
What will this cost later?
Do I still need all of it?
Are there better options?

This isn’t about fear.

It’s about knowing what’s coming before it gets expensive.

I wrote a simple article breaking it all down so federal employees can make informed decisions early.

Take a look here:

Doing nothing with FEGLI can feel safe.

I see it all the time.

It’s already there.

It comes out of the paycheck.
It feels automatic.
It feels easier to deal with later.

So many people tell themselves:

“I’ll look at it next year.”
“I’ll review it closer to retirement.”
“I’m sure it’s fine for now.”

And honestly, I get it.

Life gets busy.

But delayed decisions can get expensive.

Because FEGLI doesn’t always stay the same.

Costs can rise with age.
Your family needs can change.
Options that made sense years ago may not fit today.

And the longer it stays on autopilot…

The easier it is to keep paying for something that no longer serves you.

This isn’t about panic.

It’s about being proactive.

Sometimes one simple review can create a lot of clarity.

I help people understand:

• What they currently have
• What it may cost later
• Whether it still fits their goals
• If better options exist

Most people don’t need dramatic changes.

They just need to look at it before small issues become costly ones.

If your FEGLI has been sitting untouched for years, now may be a smart time to review it.

Message me if you’d like a second set of eyes on it.

Most families don't put off life insurance because they don't care.

They put it off because it feels overwhelming, expensive, or too uncomfortable to think about.

That's completely normal.

But here's the thing... this decision isn't really about buying a policy. It's about protecting the paycheck your family depends on every single month.

If one income disappeared tomorrow, what would become hard immediately?

That's the question worth sitting with.

I wrote about this because I think the conversation gets framed wrong too often. Once you see it clearly, the next step gets a lot easier.
