Not everyone worthy of praise shows up on the front page of the newspaper or is showcased on social media. Some reside in the background. Kathy’s ministry lives in the private spaces that many dare not enter. Those in crisis, those battling mental health or substance abuse challenges, those in the midst of grief, the
underserved. Those that some may say don’t deserve a second chance. That’s where she resides, privately listening, praying, loving and encouraging. And it’s not lost on me that Kathy’s nearly 50-year career as an educator continues at the Maryville Treatment
Center, formerly Mount Alverno, the motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis. She carries their spirit of compassion, respect, stewardship, community and excellence. Would you all join me in

We are excited to bring to you our next ambassadors, Clint and Phyllis Lawyer. Although nervous about having a baby in a small town, they immediately felt at ease at Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville. They felt they were able to establish relationships with the staff on a personal level and could not imagine having another child anywhere else.

Our next ambassadors are Ryan and Kara Lessman. Ryan and Kara began their journey to start a family shortly after getting married. They were handed several different challenges over the course of those years, being given one trial after another. After timing seemed to never line up with having a child, they finally gave birth to their first child. The Lessman’s started their journey at Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville and are grateful for the supportive staff that listened to all of their concerns and provided them with the resources they needed.

Our next Women’s Health Ambassador is Dr. Fallon Stiens. As a dentist, she recognizes the importance of oral health as it relates to the whole body. Fallon is a mother, wife, friend, and business owner - which can sometimes make it difficult to manage a work-life balance. She acknowledges that women can sometimes be their own worst critics and hopes that as an ambassador she can not only educate others on the importance of dental health but also be a cheerleader for all women.

We are pleased to welcome our next ambassador, Carole Funston. Carole has endured several trials after an early diagnosis that would forever change the course of her life. She found strength and determination through her passion for teaching and love from friends and family. She recognizes that women tend to minimize what they are facing and wants others to know that it is okay to reach out and accept help, as ALL women deserve to be heard.

Our fifth Women's Health Ambassador is Ali Sporleder. Ali is a women's health nurse practitioner at Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville. Inspired by women's health at a young age, Ali found it easy to choose to stay in Maryville because of the atmosphere and connections to this hospital. She endured several difficult trials on her journey to becoming a mother, but found herself supported and cared for by her staff members. Ali likes to practice nursing in a way that is very empowering to women to ensure no woman ever feels judged. She hopes to build up women's health in this community and impact patients to make them feel more educated and comfortable with their bodies.

Our next Women's Health Ambassador is Brooke McAtee. Brooke serves as the Director of Nursing at Northwest Missouri State University, and a member of the advisory board at Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville. She began her career in maternal child labor and delivery which has led her to work with a variety of obstretric patients. She has experienced firsthand women's resources and doors closing to obstetrics units. She uses her passion for education to continue to teach others about the importance and benefits of maternal health, and works to ensure the very best care for patients in the region.

Today, we are excited to bring to you our next ambassador, Avery Baker. At a young age, Avery has realized how quickly women put themselves aside in order to help others first. She describes how she has been affected physically and mentally by feelings of anxiousness and anxiety during her transition to college. Although difficult, her experiences have allowed her to help others who are also enduring similar struggles, all while learning transitions aren't failures.

We welcome our second Women's Health Ambassador, Christy Bahner Tapps. Christy serves as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Northwest Missouri State University and shares her heartfelt story of what it was like on her unexpected journey of becoming a mother. She describes the lack of conversation surrounding women's health and how easy it is for women to put their own health on the back burner in order to put others first. Christy focuses her work on treating the whole athlete, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

We are excited to share the story of our first 2024 St. Francis Foundation Gala Women's Health Ambassador, Judy Cordell Frueh. Through her interactions with patients as a nurse practitioner for 33 years, Judy strives to focus on education and finding the resources women need. One of her goals is to be able to give women the opportunity to be able to choose the choices they want to make, not the choices they have to make because of limited resources in our area. Judy chooses to stay locally for her healthcare and all three of her grandchildren were born at Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville. Her passion has made a vast impact on women's health.
