The idea of my practice actually began when I was around 7 years-old. One day, I found myself in a grocery store line, staring at a UNICEF box with various colors of children holding hands around the box. I thought, “There are children who need help? They don’t have anyone?” From that point forward, I remember being tuned in to the needs, hardships, and heartaches of the oppressed, discriminated, judged, rejected, and isolated; and realizing that there was no way I could ever not do something about it.
In June 2014, I did something that I ask my clients to do: make positive changes. I decided to believe in myself, put empowerment into practice and I opened the door to my private practice. I began with an almost zero budget and was fortunate enough to have use of space in the basement of Southland Bookstore. I saved every penny so I could reinvest in my practice. Six months later, I moved into an official office space on Ellis Ave. and celebrated with my friends and family. Despite some hardships, I found a renewed excitement in repurposing objects and furnishing my first office in creative ways. During the next three years, I continued saving every penny, founded a non-profit, provided trainings for professionals, and continued to focus on building my business. In January 2018, I celebrated again with friends and family when I moved into a bigger practice space. I continue to reinvest in my practice. This is important to me because of something I couldn’t turn off in my mind about my future when I was a child: I must help others and our community.
My practice exists to help others.
