Mason City Clinic is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Cori Walker, MD, to the ENT department. Dr. Walker will begin her role on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Dr. Walker received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She completed her Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.

Like many healthcare providers across the country, Mason City Clinic faces increasing recruitment and retention challenges in some high-demand specialties. This is a national trend.

Recently, some of our physicians have retired and others have made difficult personal decisions to transition their practices. These decisions often come down to how physicians balance professional responsibilities, family life, and long-term goals. Nearly one-quarter of our physicians are age 60 or older, and as some approach retirement, the nationwide shortage of specialty physicians—especially in rural areas—makes recruiting replacements more challenging than ever. These changes may lead to intermittent gaps in local specialty call coverage during transitional periods. It’s not unique to our clinic—health systems across the country are seeing this trend. Despite these challenges, we continue to actively recruit new providers and explore creative staffing models for the future of specialty care in North Iowa.
