Minutes matter during a cardiac emergency. Nearly 90% of people who experience an out‑of‑hospital cardiac arrest don’t survive before reaching a medical center.

Charlie knows just how critical timing can be. As “luck” would have it, his heart stopped minutes after arriving by ambulance at MercyOne — putting him in the right place at the right time.

What followed was a remarkable team effort. Emergency, critical care, heart and vascular specialists stepped in, supported by advanced emergency life‑support technology that did the work for Charlie’s heart and lungs. Had he arrived just moments later, the outcome could have been very different.

After a life-changing crash left him paralyzed, high school senior Brayden is beginning the next phase of his recovery with expert care at MercyOne — and we were honored to help him celebrate a major milestone.

Our team came together to celebrate his high school graduation, surrounding him with support, compassion and a moment his family will never forget. Following the crash, Brayden spent more than a week in intensive care with serious spinal injuries, showing incredible resilience every step of the way.

“The care here was phenomenal,” he said, giving special thanks to the nurses who helped him through some of his most difficult nights.

Now, Brayden is preparing to begin physical therapy and focus on recovery, taking it one day at a time. His strength, faith and positive outlook continue to inspire everyone around him.

After a nationwide search, Robert Baxter, FACHE has been named the new president and CEO of MercyOne.

Bob brings more than 30 years of health care experience, most recently serving as president of the Toledo market for Bon Secours Mercy Health, the largest health care system in Ohio. There he created strategies to improve trauma performance, increase retention and recruitment, regionalize and negotiate new joint ventures while leading Mercy Health to a CMS Five-Star rating.
