Finally, I was finishing up the last patient of the day when a mother and son came in both of whom have been long time patients. I treated the mom when she was pregnant with him and he is a sophmore in college now. He brought me a gift to say thank you. I love all my patients but, there are some that hold a special place in my heart and this whole family is one of those.When he graduated from high school I gave him a book. It was a Dr. Seuss book that is given often at graduations "Oh, the Places You Will Go". Now this book wasn't just any book. It was given to each Doctor in my class when we graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. It had been sitting in my desk drawer for twenty eight years and I felt it was time someone else needed to have it. Okay, you can call me a cheapskate but it meant something special to him. Tonight, he comes in with a box and gives it to me. In it he had made a 3D Dr. Suez picture out of wood from that book. Made my Day!

This is a second of three posts about events that all happened today Friday 8/4/23. I had a new patient come in today that was having neck problems. She is a 72 year old would has epilepsy. She had a seizure and had fallen down some stairs. Her medical doctor gave her some pain pills and muscle relaxers and told her that she had aggravated the arthritis in her neck when she fell and for her to go see a chiropractor. She brought the x-rays that the medical doctor took with her. Boy, am I glad she did. I found three fractures in her neck. Three of the seven neck vertebra were fused together by degeneration. She showed signs of brittle bone disease. I had to tell her to never, ever allow a chiropractor, osteopath or physical therapist to manipulate her neck. She was dishearted but also grateful about being told what was going on. Not a story where I perform a miracle but I feel good knowing this lady will not suffer more damage at the hands of someone trying to help her.

Those of you who know me know that I am shy and I never blow my own horn. However, there are days when something so special happens that I need to break my own rules. I had a patient come in today that I had not seen for close to a year. The last time I saw her I had referred her to her medical doctor because I knew there was something going on that was not responding to my care and my gut told me that it needed to be looked into. She did not want to go. It was only with my insistence that she went. Long story short, they discovered a tumor wrapped around her Vena Cava. Which is one the major blood suppliers to the thoracic and abdominal organs. They were able to operate and get it out. They told her if it had gone much longer they would not have been able to operate and it would have been fatal. She thanked me for the referral and for making her go to her MD.
