✅Must have experience working with first responders and veterans

❇️Experience in addiction treatment is a strong plus

❇️Trauma-specific modality training preferred (EMDR, CPT, IFS, etc.) but not required

The holidays have a way of pretending they’re all twinkle lights and cocoa, but anyone working a holiday shift knows the truth: it’s more “silent night, loud radio.”

If you’re a first responder or frontline worker navigating the season on duty, consider this your unofficial permission slip to honor your humanity while you support everyone else’s.

Reward yourself with tiny rituals—sip something warm before your shift like it’s a sacred brew, take a 30-second breath between calls, notice a single string of lights as if it’s a personal message from the universe saying, “You’re doing enough.”

Missing traditions hurts, and that doesn’t make you weak—just human. But here’s the real magic: traditions are not bound to a date on a calendar. You can team up with friends, partners, and family to create celebrations that happen when you can actually be present. A “December 27th Feast of Leftovers,” a “New Year’s Eve That Happens on the 3rd,” or even a “Mid-January Cozy Movie Night Because Everyone Was Exhausted.” Meaning is portable. Connection is flexible. You get to design rituals that work for your life, not squeeze your life into rituals that don’t.

You can also build micro-moments of meaning wherever you are: a text to someone you love, a quiet laugh with a coworker, a mental toast to yourself for showing up again and again.

We’re scheduling virtual sessions (pants optional, pajamas encouraged) and in-person appointments at both of our locations: our original home in Matawan, NJ, and our new second office in Fairfield, NJ, opened to better serve Northern New Jersey. Two offices. Same calm-in-the-chaos energy.

We specialize in working with first responders—the folks who run toward the danger while everyone else runs away. The holidays have a funny way of turning the volume all the way up—on joy, on grief, on expectations, on exhaustion.

Today happens to be Cookie Day, which means the pressure is on to feel festive and cheerful and emotionally regulated while holding a baked good.

If that feels like a lot, congratulations: you’re human. It’s not a personal failure—it’s biology, psychology, family dynamics, and about twelve kinds of social pressure piled into a single month like an overstuffed stocking (possibly full of cookies).

This season, we invite you to take care of your mental health the same way you take care of everyone else—on purpose.

That might mean setting boundaries, saying no without a speech, keeping routines where you can, or making space for emotions that don’t match the holiday brochure…. Yes, cookies can be comforting. No, they are not a replacement for rest or support (delicious though they may be).

Rest is not laziness. Support is not weakness. And needing help doesn’t mean you’ve ruined the holidays—it might actually save them.

At Zen Warrior, we’re here for the hard parts behind the holiday photos—the feelings that don’t fit neatly between the twinkle lights and baked goods.
