We are hosting July's Second Saturday Summer Clean-up at Riverside Cemetery, Section "L," this Saturday the 12th at 9:30 am. Enter at the Gull Road entrance nearest to Riverview Drive and proceed straight up the hill to Section L. Attached is a map of the cemetery for your assistance.

We will review proper gravestone cleaning techniques, tools, and cleaning solutions prior to the gravestone cleaning event on Saturday. All necessary tools and materials will be supplied by the Friends of Kalamazoo Historic Cemeteries. We will also take a little time to point out some of the unique and interesting gravestones located in this section. Finally, if you have plans to clean a family gravestone in another cemetery you are welcome to bring a small plastic spray bottle and we will share some of our free Orvus cleaner with you.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday in Riverside Cemetery.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we live in freedom today.

🐝 World Bee Day: Telling It to the Bees 🐝

There’s an old and tender tradition once held dear in many places: when a loved one passed, the family would “tell it to the bees.” Whispering the news to the hives ensured the bees wouldn't fly away from grief—because even the smallest souls deserve to be part of life’s biggest moments.

As monument makers, we’re moved by the quiet beauty of that custom. Just like stones mark a legacy, this gentle act reminds us that memory and mourning are woven through nature, too.

Today, on World Bee Day, we honor the bees—and the stories they carry. May we always remember to speak softly, love deeply, and share our sorrows with those who can help us carry them, wings and all.
