She opened Mattawan Yoga in 2016 and is a Certified Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Trainer with Elise Browning Miller. Jessica has assisted multiple 200 and 500 hour yoga teacher trainings including RaviAna's Kundalini Yoga and Sangha Yoga Institute of Higher Learning. Jessica holds a Bachelor's in Psychology & a Master of Social Work both from WMU. Her classes & retreats provide a non-judgmental atmosphere where she shares her knowledge of Yoga, Astrology, Martial Arts, Reiki, & Psychology to heal the body & mind while connecting w/ spirit. Jessica has a passion for teaching modifications for all types of people due to her personal experience w/ scoliosis. Jessica's available for fabulous yoga & astrology retreats.

Chakras: These are believed to be swirling vortexes of energy located along the spine, each associated with different psychological and physiological functions.

Mudras: These are symbolic hand gestures that help direct the flow of prana (life force energy) within the body and stimulate specific areas or chakras, enhancing the benefits of meditation and yoga.

Bija Mantras: These are single-syllable Sanskrit sounds associated with each chakra, believed to activate and balance its energy when chanted.

The Seven Chakras and their Associated Mudras and Mantras:
Root Chakra (Muladhara):
Mudra: The image shows a gesture where the tips of the thumbs and index fingers form a ring, with the remaining fingers interlaced.

Mantra: LAM (pronounced "lahm").
Associations: Located at the base of the spine, connected to grounding, stability, and basic survival needs.

Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana):
Mudra: The image depicts hands resting in the lap, left hand below the right, palms up, with thumbs gently touching.

Mantra: VAM (pronounced "vahm").
Associations: Located in the lower abdomen, linked to emotions, creativity, and sensuality.

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura):
Mudra: The image displays hands placed near the stomach, fingers joined at the tips pointing away, and thumbs crossed.
Mantra: RAM (pronounced "rahm").

Associations: Located above the navel, associated with personal power, self-esteem, and digestion.

Heart Chakra (Anahata):
Mudra: The image shows the tips of the index finger and thumb touching on both hands, with the left hand on the left knee and the right hand near the breastbone.
Mantra: YAM (pronounced "yahm").

Associations: Located at the heart center, linked to love, compassion, and relationships.

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha):
Mudra: The image illustrates fingers crossed on the inside of the hands, with thumbs touching at the tips and pulled up slightly.

Mantra: HAM (pronounced "hahm").
Associations: Located at the base of the throat, connected to communication and self-expression.

Third Eye Chakra (Ajna):
Mudra: The image shows hands in front of the lower part of the breast, middle fingers straight and touching at the tips, other fingers bent and touching at the upper phalanges, and thumbs pointing towards the body and meeting at the tips.

Mantra: OM (pronounced "ohm" or "aum").
Associations: Located between the eyebrows, linked to intuition, imagination, and inner vision.

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara):
Mudra: The image shows hands placed before the stomach, little fingers pointing up and away, touching at their tops, and other fingers crossed with the left thumb under the right.

Mantra: OM (pronounced "ohm" or "aum").
Associations: Located at the crown of the head, representing spirituality, wisdom, and enlightenment.

One of the greatest gifts I ever received when I was at my lowest point was this. “You are going through more than people were meant to handle, give yourself time to heal. All you’re supposed to do it survive this thing. Sometimes we can’t be who we are but it’s temporary. So give yourself some grace and remember survival is progress.”

That changed my entire perspective. It took away so much pressure. And ya know what? That person was right. Everything will come back. Maybe not the way it was before. But maybe even better.

Nobody is helping me! That’s because they don’t know how. Or they were never taught on what it means to help.

You are learning that all you need is you. And you need to learn to dance with the fear. Release the anger and engage in the harmonious dance with what worries you.

You can’t change things. You can’t change people. But you can choose how you respond. And when you let go of the anger of the situation and know that you can trust you it’s when you will become someone that you never imagined you would be.

Be calm. You’re still here. And life is beautiful. You are loved. And the future might have a mountain in front of it but wait til you see what’s on the other side. It’s worth the hike.
