When your patients don't truly comprehend the exercise intent, value, and compensations, they're renting movement.

Sure, they perform it when you ask them to. But there's minimal long-term carryover because they don't know the "why" and the "how."

Instead, provide your patient with the tools to take responsibility, action, and comprehension to develop ownership.

Here's how:
Educate on the intent of the exercise - what's the purpose?
Educate on the value of the exercise - how will it benefit them?
Educate on wrong vs. correct technique - provide a movement checklist that they can use to learn the ins and outs of the movement
Implement modifications - Set them up for success and make the exercise specific to them

Whether you realize it or not, you've achieved goals you once thought weren't possible.

However, these dreams become neglected from your temporary day-to-day emotions.

Feelings of stress, anxiety, anger, and burnout create the illusion that you're unhappy.

But remember how happy you were when that dream became a reality?

For example, remember the time when you got accepted into PT school? You were ecstatic.

As time moves further from achieving the dream, we lose sight of our accomplishments.

The once ecstatic mindset quickly becomes blurred from our temporary emotions.

Instead, when the dream becomes challenging, remind yourself of the feelings when the dream becomes a reality.

Our memory and identity are limitations from the past that prevent us from living freely in the moment.

These limitations maintain a stronghold on our ego, mindset, and daily actions.

Without being aware of these limitations in the first place, we'll never be able to reach the antidote of happiness.

So, having awareness is the first requirement because you can't change a habit if you're not first aware of it.

Increasing awareness to become more present doesn't mean you need to sit in silence all day long, it means you're aware of the shift.

Catching your mind shifting to a past or future thought triggers awareness that brings you back to the present moment

Are you randomly prescribing exercise?

You're not alone — most the profession does it.

When it comes to exercise prescription, guessing means following the same protocol you have for shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain, etc.

Unfortunately, this happens for two main reasons:

1️⃣ Not comprehending the true meaning behind the assessment
2️⃣ Not carrying the assessment findings through to your plan of care

Instead, when you genuinely comprehend your assessments, you know the "why" behind the limitation and use that to guide your specific exercise prescription.

Living with intent is truly the secret to a fulfilled life.

Most of us go through our day on auto-pilot, routinely completing tasks without awareness, purpose, and intent.

For example, how often have you driven somewhere and arrived at your destination, only to be instantly confused about how you just got there?!

Ever wonder why this happens throughout your day?

You're living in the past or the future blocking the ability to be present.

To improve this, I challenge you...

I challenge you to see if you can purposefully go 24-hours living intentionally and present.

In both cases, these individuals are working smarter, not harder.

Through consistency, strategy, and hard-work wealthy individuals reach the point where money is working for them, not against them.

Similarly, through consistency, strategy, and hard-work healthy individuals reach a point where calories are working for them, not against them.

What exactly does this mean? Think about the last time you got super frustrated after watching a "fit" individual eat crap food with no effect on them!

How does that happen?

The calories are working FOR THEM to rebuild and replenish due to their caloric paradigm shift from simply remaining consistent.

I believe these are the two most significant challenges in our industry.

With more and more patients added to the typical PT's schedule, it creates burnout.

When there's PT burnout, it creates a vicious cycle that ultimately stops or limits growth. As Tony Robbins says, "if you're not growing, you're dying."

PTs need to be in a work environment that allows them to explore, grow, and learn to continue honing in on their true purpose and passion that got them in the field in the first place.

Increasing costs of PT schools + declining reimbursement rates for PT = poor self-worth.

Instead, you should be appropriately compensated for your value, skills, and work.

This is just one way we'll continue to REDEFINE our industry!

Warm-Ups are typically under-appreciated.

This under-appreciation comes from missing how valuable the warm-up can be.

This missed opportunity ultimately comes down to a lack of understanding of your assessment findings.

If you genuinely understand your assessment findings, you'll respect the warm-up and understand the exact strategies that need to be accomplished.

However, the profession tends to go through the motions regarding assessments.

Usually, the necessary boxes are checked, and we move to the typical protocol to treat the condition in front of us.

So how do we fix this?

1️⃣ Improve your assessment skills/strategies

2️⃣ Improve your assessment comprehension

3️⃣ Understand the biomechanical limitations found in the assessment

4️⃣ Strategically prescribe warm-ups to address those limitations.

5️⃣ Improve limitations, improve movement variability

6️⃣Your patient is now better positioned to breathe, move, and perform.
