Join us on Mondays 3:30-4:30 PM Eastern time-beginning August 11th for a revolving virtual series of movement explorations from Ruthy Alon’s Movement Intelligence work. Why take this class? It’s a long list. Although Movement Intellgience is a Feldenkrais (R) informed discipline, it can be incredibly helpful in many ways. Here are a few!

Sometimes it seems like the modern world is too much to naviagate with all our many problems and other times it feels like there isn’t enough lifetime to live to learn all the possible things we could learn. I’m so grateful to have spent a lifetime learning from so many people, in disciplines that support and help the world 🌎. In June I’ll be headed right back out for a week in Elkhart, Indiana to learn BoneWork with Rolfer, and ScarWork creator, Sharon Wheeler. Deeply attuned and oriented toward offering what is good.

The Image Channel is one of five nervous system channels in the Somatic Experiencing (R)/body centered trauma healing work of Peter Levine, PhD. We can be curious about our body experience through this lens and sometimes find an easier process path. Image channel can offer us some neural space to process content or experience that might feel overwhelming from the lens of sensation or meaning, for example. Sometimes we might have memories that are stored as images and not like a moving narrative. Memories that can arrive like still photos or stop frame. This can be useful and help our nervous system manage activation in a way that stays within our capacity. If sensation feels confusing, unclear, or unsafe-we might ask ourselves “if this sensation or feeling had a shape, what would it be?” A cloud, a water balloon, a moving tide, a twisted towel? What needs to happen? Can we image expansion or movement? Dissipation or consolidation? We might feel moved to image the shift in our body than increases safety and gives ease. With our hand or an object, we can follow the wordless nature of our autonomic nervous system and show the body what is needed. Offer gentleness and grace to yourself. Offer what is easy.

Four days spent with seven other Bodywork professionals and people from our community who came to trust us to receive care and treatment in a collective, group setting of learning, growth, and support for all. I ask myself, after experiences as simple as this, what is the core of human life and human experience? It seems to just be these simple human exchanges that communicate intention, hold space without judgement, or efforting, and support the nervous systems longing for neural safety. Neural safety, from the PolyVagal Theory lens of “no need for defense, all needs met.” I am committed, both personally and professionally to spend my days to my last day, directing myself along this path. Thank you to everyone who made this happen and offered something to this experience. With compassion and acknowledgment of those people not with us but close in our hearts. Work that matters. Life worth living.
