This Women's History Month, IDHS celebrates the remarkable achievements of women in human services in Illinois.

Today, we honor Jane Addams, a pioneer in social reform and founder of Hull House in Chicago.

Born in 1860, Addams dedicated her life to improving the lives of immigrants and the underserved in Chicago. Hull House became a hub for social change, offering education, healthcare, and job training to those in need. Addams advocated for labor rights, women's suffrage, and child welfare, shaping policies that continue to impact human services today.

Her legacy of compassion, advocacy, and community empowerment remains a cornerstone of Chicago's commitment to social justice.
