Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home

Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home We invite you to come tour the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon,Illinois. We have served Coles County for over 126 years with exceptional health care!

If you’re looking for short term Rehab,Memory Care or Long term needs, we are the best in the area! "Extra effort is made to ensure every resident feels as though this is also their home." Built in 1898, Odd Fellow - Rebekah Home's original building was part of a private community consisting of a farm, housing for staff, and "The Old Folks Home." The old 3-story building was torn down and replaced in 1976 with our current single-story building. The Alzheimer's unit was added in 1996. Our facility is owned by the Odd Fellows Organization and the Rebekah Assembly of Illinois and is operated by Heritage Enterprises. "Whether they are here for short-term rehabilitation or long-term, every person is treated as family. Odd Fellow-Rebekah is unique in that a large portion of the staff has been a part of the organization for years," says administrator David Standerfer. "The care residents receive here is focused on each person as an individual and based on their needs not only physically, but emotionally. I am proud to be a part of the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home family, as we continue to care for our community." Beyond the caliber of our care and staff, our facility boasts other fine features, such as our breathtaking location on sprawling, park-like grounds and recent renovations to our facility. We offer extensive on-site services - including a hair salon/beauty shop, respite care, hospice care, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies. We also have a 42-bed additional specifically built for the wandering aspects of people with Alzheimer's and dementia. We are also proud to be a certified provider of LSVT LOUD, a speech therapy program that treats voice and speech conditions related to Parkinson's disease and other neurological diagnoses. What differentiates a facility of excellence from a nursing home? For some, it is just living up to its reputation.

We take great pleasure in hosting our annual Christmas party for our residents and Board of Directors. Odd Fellows' generosity in gifting each resident is commendable. Our holiday bake and craft sales were also a huge success. We feel deeply blessed. As always Santa is a huge success!

Throwback Thursday!!! Don Dennis resides in the Harmony Center at Odd Fellow Rebekah! He was in the Navy, 1955-57, stationed in the San Diego Harbor. His ship was U.S.S. Hector AR-7 his ship was bound for Sasebo, Japan then onto Yokosuka to Inchon and Pusan. He has some magnificent photos on his Navy Journey in these locations. This ship was built in 1944 and was used for “repair ships” The ships motto was~ “Through Work The Victory” !
Don has been a fantastic Family Man even through his divorce, they remained true to each other, just no longer married. Never a bad word toward each other. Don's daughter is no longer with us but always in our hearts and minds.
Don worked at Sherwin Williams Paints and MAB Paints, worked his way up the ladder. Hard working professional. He is loved and treasured here at Odd Fellows! Check out his pictures below!

Throwback Thursday...We have a Queen amongst us! Mrs. Kathleen (Kay) Curry, known to us as Mrs. Kay Kleiss was selected by a panel of 4 judges from six candidates to be the 1953 villa Grove Pancake Festival Queen! Kay was a sophomore at EIU when she was crowned! She loves to reminisce about this moment.

The Dine with a Doc event in Newton, IL, was a great success today, thanks in part to the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home's sponsorship of the meal. We enjoyed sloppy joe’s, chips and cookies!

Amber Clark, LCSW, delivered an informative presentation on assistance for veterans and individuals in crisis situations, providing valuable insights into the services available to veterans and those struggling with suicidal thoughts. We appreciated her expertise and perspective. Remember, support is available. If you are struggling and need someone to talk to, please call 988, as help is available.

THROWBACK THURSDAY....Ken Maleske is 82 years old. Born and raised in Chicago. A big Cubs, Bulls, and Bears fan. Went to college in Winfield, Kansas, majoring in business and accounting. He worked in the printing industry for 44 years.
He was very active in the Lutheran church until mobility issues set in. Loved singing in choirs since grade school through college and in church until he could no longer attend services.
A good family man to his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren. Loved supporting his sons in their sports….their number 1 fan! Ken enjoyed fishing and golf. His grandfather taught him to fish when he started to go up to his grandparent's farm during the summers. Ken passed his love of fishing on to his sons, as well as his love for golf.
Very competitive playing cards, ping pong, pool, darts, and scrimmaging with his sons playing basketball. Loved to work jigsaw puzzles.
In the photo, Ken is removing a hook from the fish his grandson, Kegan caught on a family fishing vacation.
