We proudly serve the Cleveland and Central Ohio regions with multiple locations dedicated to providing exceptional Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. Our goal is to see children succeed within their home environment, school environment, socially, emotionally, verbally, and functionally overall. At On Target ABA we look to improve quality of life in multiple ways, including group interaction

where kids work on appropriately taking turns, sharing, and calming strategies. We provide intensive ABA therapy to children, ages 2-18, both in-home, in school, and in clinic. We specialize in early intervention for children with autism and offer a collaborative approach which includes; Early Intervention Day Program, Clinic Based ABA therapy, and In-Home ABA therapy.

Forcing eye contact can:

Some days are beautiful. Some days are hard. Most days are both.

Here are 8 practical tips that can make daily life a little smoother for your family: 👇

1️⃣ Build a consistent daily routine — predictability is your child’s best friend
2️⃣ Use visual schedules — pictures help your child know what’s coming next
3️⃣ Give transition warnings — “5 more minutes, then we’re leaving” goes a long way
4️⃣ Create a calm corner at home — a safe, quiet space for when things feel overwhelming
5️⃣ Simplify your language — short, clear sentences work best
6️⃣ Celebrate small wins — every step forward is a real victory

🚨 Meltdown or Tantrum? Most people confuse the two — but for autism parents, knowing the difference changes everything.

👊 TANTRUM
✔ Goal-directed — the child wants something
✔ Child is aware of their audience
✔ Stops when they get (or don’t get) what they want
✔ Child can often be distracted or redirected

🌊 MELTDOWN
❌ NOT goal-directed — it’s neurological overload
❌ Child is NOT in control — they are in genuine distress
❌ Does NOT stop when they get what they want
❌ Child may seem completely unreachable

The most important thing to remember:

👉 Your child isn’t giving you a hard time.
👉 They’re having a hard time.

ABA therapy helps identify triggers, build regulation skills, and teach your child better ways to communicate — so meltdowns become less frequent, less intense, and less scary for everyone. 💙

Here’s a quick look at how it all started — and how far it’s come: 👇

🔵 1930s — B.F. Skinner lays the foundation with his research on operant conditioning — how behavior is shaped by consequences.

🔵 1960s — Dr. Ivar Lovaas applies behavioral science to children with autism for the first time, pioneering what would become ABA therapy.

🔵 1987 — Lovaas publishes landmark research showing intensive ABA therapy produces significant improvements in communication, learning, and independence for children with autism.

🔵 1990s-2000s — ABA evolves. Play-based, naturalistic approaches emerge. The focus shifts from compliance to quality of life, communication, and individualization.

🔵 Today — ABA is recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Psychological Association as the most evidence-based intervention for autism. It’s more human, more individualized, and more effective than ever. 💙

Modern ABA isn’t what it was in the 1960s. It’s evolved — and it keeps getting better.
