๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Autism & eye contact โ€” let's talk about it.

โŒ MYTH: No eye contact = not paying attention.
โœ… TRUTH: Many children with autism process information BETTER without it.

Forcing eye contact can:
๐Ÿ”ด Increase anxiety
๐Ÿ”ด Reduce processing ability
๐Ÿ”ด Damage trust

Eye contact is ONE form of connection.
Not the only one. Not the most important one. ๐Ÿ’™

At On Target ABA, we build joint attention and natural connection โ€” always at your child's pace.

๐ŸŒฟ Have you heard of Natural Environment Teaching?

It's one of the most powerful โ€” and most misunderstood โ€” approaches in ABA therapy. And chances are, your child has already experienced it.

๐Ÿ“š WHAT IS NET?
Natural Environment Teaching (NET) is an evidence-based ABA method where learning happens IN your child's everyday world โ€” not just at a table.

Instead of flashcards and drills, skills are taught through:
๐ŸŽฎ Play & favorite toys
๐ŸŽ Snack time & mealtimes
๐Ÿ› Bath time & daily routines
๐Ÿก Home, school & community settings
๐ŸŽจ Art, music & sensory activities

๐ŸŽฏ WHY IT WORKS:
โœ… Skills are learned WHERE they'll actually be used
โœ… Children are motivated because it's built around their interests
โœ… Less frustration โ€” fewer tantrums & more engagement
โœ… Skills generalize faster to real life
โœ… Learning feels natural โ€” kids often don't even know it's happening!

Here's the magic: a child who loves cars isn't just playing with cars. They're learning colors, counting, requesting, turn-taking, and language โ€” all at once, through something they already love. ๐Ÿš—

"It isn't enough to memorize answers if the knowledge doesn't functionally apply to their everyday environment." โ€” That's the heart of NET.

At On Target ABA, NET is woven into every session โ€” because when a child is engaged and motivated, THAT'S when real learning happens. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽ‰ The best ABA therapy doesnโ€™t feel like therapy.

It feels like play. ๐ŸŽฎ

Bubbles. Building blocks. Pretend play. Sensory bins. Games. Laughter.

Every activity is intentional.
Every laugh is a connection.
Every win is real. ๐Ÿ’™

This is what we do at On Target ABA โ€” and our kiddos show up every day excited to be here. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ’™ Nobody talks about both sides of autism caregiving.

So we will.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง THE FAMILY:
The love is enormous.
And so is the exhaustion.
The wins are small to the world
and everything to us.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ THE PROFESSIONAL:
We chose this on purpose.
We carry these kids with us.
Every breakthrough reminds us why.

Both are real.
Both are beautiful.
Both matter. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ฌ Drop a โค๏ธ if youโ€™re a family living it.
Drop a ๐Ÿ’™ if youโ€™re a professional who gets it.

๐Ÿ  Caring for a child with autism is one of the most meaningful โ€” and most demanding โ€” things a person can do.

Some days are beautiful. Some days are hard. Most days are both.

Here are 8 practical tips that can make daily life a little smoother for your family: ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ Build a consistent daily routine โ€” predictability is your childโ€™s best friend
2๏ธโƒฃ Use visual schedules โ€” pictures help your child know whatโ€™s coming next
3๏ธโƒฃ Give transition warnings โ€” โ€œ5 more minutes, then weโ€™re leavingโ€ goes a long way
4๏ธโƒฃ Create a calm corner at home โ€” a safe, quiet space for when things feel overwhelming
5๏ธโƒฃ Simplify your language โ€” short, clear sentences work best
6๏ธโƒฃ Celebrate small wins โ€” every step forward is a real victory
7๏ธโƒฃ Plan ahead for outings โ€” pack comfort items, know your exit plan
8๏ธโƒฃ Take care of yourself too โ€” a rested caregiver is a better caregiver

You donโ€™t have to have it all figured out. You just have to keep showing up โ€” and you already are. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ฌ Which of these do you already do? Or share one tip thatโ€™s made a difference in YOUR daily routine! Weโ€™d love to hear from you. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ณ Wondering if your insurance covers ABA therapy?

Hereโ€™s what most families donโ€™t know:

๐Ÿ‘‰ In most states, insurance companies are required by law to cover ABA therapy for children with an autism diagnosis.

At On Target ABA, we accept most major insurance plans โ€” and we make the verification process easy for you. ๐Ÿ’™

โœ… We accept most major insurance plans
โœ… We accept Medicaid
โœ… Our insurance experts verify your coverage for you
โœ… No guessing, no complicated paperwork on your end

Youโ€™ve already got enough on your plate. Let us handle the insurance piece so you can focus on what matters most โ€” your child. ๐ŸŽฏ

๐Ÿ“ž Not sure if youโ€™re covered? Give us a call and one of our insurance experts will verify your benefits โ€” quickly and at no cost to you.

๐Ÿ’ฌ DROP A COMMENT: Did you know insurance was required to cover ABA therapy? A lot of families are surprised! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿšจ Meltdown or Tantrum? Most people confuse the two โ€” but for autism parents, knowing the difference changes everything.

๐Ÿ‘Š TANTRUM
โœ” Goal-directed โ€” the child wants something
โœ” Child is aware of their audience
โœ” Stops when they get (or donโ€™t get) what they want
โœ” Child can often be distracted or redirected

๐ŸŒŠ MELTDOWN
โŒ NOT goal-directed โ€” itโ€™s neurological overload
โŒ Child is NOT in control โ€” they are in genuine distress
โŒ Does NOT stop when they get what they want
โŒ Child may seem completely unreachable

The most important thing to remember:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Your child isnโ€™t giving you a hard time.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Theyโ€™re having a hard time.

ABA therapy helps identify triggers, build regulation skills, and teach your child better ways to communicate โ€” so meltdowns become less frequent, less intense, and less scary for everyone. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you experienced this with your child? Share in the comments โ€” your story might help another parent feel less alone. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ“– Did you know ABA therapy has been helping children for over 60 years?

Hereโ€™s a quick look at how it all started โ€” and how far itโ€™s come: ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ”ต 1930s โ€” B.F. Skinner lays the foundation with his research on operant conditioning โ€” how behavior is shaped by consequences.

๐Ÿ”ต 1960s โ€” Dr. Ivar Lovaas applies behavioral science to children with autism for the first time, pioneering what would become ABA therapy.

๐Ÿ”ต 1987 โ€” Lovaas publishes landmark research showing intensive ABA therapy produces significant improvements in communication, learning, and independence for children with autism.

๐Ÿ”ต 1990s-2000s โ€” ABA evolves. Play-based, naturalistic approaches emerge. The focus shifts from compliance to quality of life, communication, and individualization.

๐Ÿ”ต Today โ€” ABA is recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Psychological Association as the most evidence-based intervention for autism. Itโ€™s more human, more individualized, and more effective than ever. ๐Ÿ’™

Modern ABA isnโ€™t what it was in the 1960s. Itโ€™s evolved โ€” and it keeps getting better.

๐Ÿซ Talking to your childโ€™s teacher about ABA therapy doesnโ€™t have to be intimidating.

Here are 7 simple tips to make that conversation productive โ€” and powerful: ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ Start early โ€” donโ€™t wait for a problem to bring it up
2๏ธโƒฃ Share your childโ€™s goals, not just their diagnosis
3๏ธโƒฃ Explain what ABA looks like in practice โ€” most teachers appreciate the context
4๏ธโƒฃ Ask how they can support your childโ€™s ABA goals in the classroom
5๏ธโƒฃ Invite collaboration โ€” your BCBA and their teacher can be a powerful team
6๏ธโƒฃ Share communication strategies that work at home
7๏ธโƒฃ Follow up regularly โ€” one conversation is a start, not a finish

Your childโ€™s best outcomes happen when home, school, and therapy are all speaking the same language. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you had this conversation with your childโ€™s teacher? Share your experience in the comments โ€” your insight could help another parent feel more prepared! ๐Ÿ‘‡
