My daughter came home from a friend’s house and told me that one of the parents asked about her upcoming trip to San Diego. When she mentioned it was for one of my conferences, he asked if it was Spear. She said yes, and he replied, “She must be a really good dentist—really good dentists go to Spear.”
She looked at me and asked, “Mama, is that true? Are you a really good dentist?”
I smiled and said, “Yes, sweet girl, Mama is a really good dentist.”
Her face lit up with pride.

What a cool case. Ortho (shoutout to for correcting this difficult bite!), whitening, and 2 composite restorations to fix the chip on the central and build up a retained primary canine to proper proportions and function. A world of a difference in the health and esthetics of this smile.

As sad and scary as it is to have a broken tooth, it is so rewarding to restore it to its natural beauty 😊

This is why we do wellness scans with our iTero 3D scanner. Over time, teeth wear, they shift, and gums recede. These are the time lapse comparisons of 3 patients we saw recently, the changes you see are 1 mm or less, sometimes too small to measure by traditional means, and yet they are significant and tell a story. When we identify subtle changes early on, we are able to slow down their progression or manage conservatively.

Have you ever left a doctor’s office with more questions than answers? I have, and it is one of the most disheartening things I have experienced as a patient. I NEVER want my patients to feel that way. I love to make these treatment plan presentations for complex cases; they invite you to review, ask questions, and participate in your care. These documents also serve as a wonderful resource to refer back to as we progress through treatment. I include photos, x-rays, easy to understand explanations and educational videos, always with the option to discuss things in more detail as needed. I believe that being organized, transparent, and available for follow-up questions is one of the ways I can make dentistry not feel overwhelming. Whenever you are ready, I’m here to make that first step toward oral health as easy as possible for you.

This was a functionally driven case- severe wear had resulted in the loss of protection typically offered by the canines during jaw movements, which in turn resulted in more anterior wear. By restoring the function of these teeth, we not only improved their appearance, but also created a healthier environment to prevent further damage.
