The Archaeology of Moonshine Between the Rivers
Thursday, June 4, 2026 | 6:00 PM
Graves County Public Library
Take a look at a lesser-known piece of regional history. In this presentation, archaeologist Carl Feagans explores the moonshine traditions that developed in the area. Once known as “Between the Rivers,” the region between the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers before the creation of Land Between the Lakes was a place where home distilling evolved from a practical farm tradition into a larger underground industry during Prohibition and the Great Depression. Drawing from archaeological evidence, Feagans will discuss hidden still sites, handmade innovations, and the traces these operations left behind in the landscape.
Feagans works with the United States Forest Service and specializes in the archaeology of Western Kentucky and Tennessee, with a particular interest in clandestine distilleries and regional industrial history.

There are numerous ways you can honor loved ones you have lost and keep them in your heart. Here are 5 ideas:
- Place flowers or a memento on the grave
- Create a space in your home for a photo and treasured memory display
- Raise a toast to them before meals
- Tell stories about them
- Light a candle and say a prayer
- Write about them in a journal for your family to keep

Caring is sharing, and the healing these activities provide can bring comfort on their birthday and other days you would celebrate them in life.
