🤕 Struggling with headaches that won’t go away? If neck tension is the cause, over-the-counter meds might only give temporary relief.

A recent study compared various treatments and found that non-drug approaches, specifically those combining hands-on chiropractic care with active lifestyle strategies, were the most effective at reducing pain intensity and frequency.🏃‍♂️💆‍♀️

💡 The Takeaway: Simply masking the pain doesn’t fix the root cause. Treating your neck and improving overall movement works better!

🏋️‍♂️ Strength training can be safe and beneficial for young adults when done the right way.

With proper guidance, good technique, and smart progressions, lifting can help build strength, support overall health, and reduce injury risk. The key is focusing on form, gradual increases, and enough recovery time.

Starting slow and learning the basics sets the foundation for long-term success, not just quick gains.

It’s time to announce the office is going to be closed for a very extended time as I recover from freak accident injuries sustained during my HillDog Running Club workout Friday morning. The approaching storm and rain at time caused us to change our route. I have no regrets. There are risks in anything we do and don’t do. When life gets hard we had better have done some if not a lot of SEEMINGLY hard things to be ready for it. I know many of you have heard my talks. I am about to live the hard part of it. My injuries are rare and severe. I completely ruptured BOTH quadriceps. I have included a pic and explanation. I went down in a heap. I actually thought my ankle was dislocated and femur is fractured. I did not realize my left side was injured. I felt messed up but not a lot of pain. My good friend Michael Palmer was with me and immediately called the squad. After I sat up in the street and scooted back a couple feet everything realigned and I could move everything. Other than blood on my ankle everything looked fine but I knew it was bad despite little pain. While in squad I was already texting my good buddies Dr Josh Owens whom I call Mr All-American and Dr Cody Lane. This was all about 5:45 am or so. They arrived about time I was getting my X-rays but just as much about starting their work day. Fridays are surgery day for Dr Owens and when it was determined what my injuries were he said he’d fit me in. It all happened fast. My wife had continued her trip to her teaching job at West Clermont HS to let them know she’d have to have the day off. She hadn’t made it back to Maysville yet as I was prepped for surgery and put under. It was great seeing so many caring knowledgeable professionals throughout the process from checking in to the surgery process. My first ER doc I saw introduced himself and asked me if I was the legendary Mark Day the chiro in town. We had a nice conversation about the difficulties in treating pain. Nurses were a bit flabbergasted that I don’t have a primary care physician or a list of meds that I am on like most people my age and that I really wasn’t in pain. My only frustration was their pain charts were 1-10 WTH?? Isn’t 0/10 our goal? No pain ? And they never asked the greatest predictor of long life and getting through a surgery…. My exercise habits. In the last 4 yeaes I have run nearly 4000 miles. The modern medicine model is so whacked but I felt great having these same professionals with me. The surgery was a good couple hours and for the most part my tears were clean with little fraying. That makes things better. I was back in my room early afternoon and a short time later up and walking with a walker and even doing some dips. I have long admired the work of PT Owen Brown and we had a nice talk about being able to move.
Everything i preach is so true. Strength matters. Can you lift and move your body? Strength trumps flexibility. Can you get into a shape and get out of it? It’s not about my despised word - core. It’s postural muscles - training toenails to fingernails .
Not being overweight matters. You don’t want to carry weight around that doesn’t help you.
Knowing that you can do hard things matters. If your mind thinks you can’t then it probably won’t happen.
Having a great circle of people in your life matters. I am so thankful for all those people and I know they will help me get through this.
Disability and death are chasing and grabbing for us everyday and they do not grade on the curve. Don’t be in good shape for your age or better than most of your friends - be in damn good shape!

The next 2 weeks are critical. I have knee immobilizers on as my knees cannot bend the next 2 weeks. We will see where things are at that point. Fortunately exercise increases the number of capillaries and that will help my healing but Nature only works so fast. I have to get this right. Chiro work as I do is very physical. It’s going to be many weeks before I get back. In the mean time I also have 150 head of cattle that need attention. 😲
A couple final takeaways. Exercise is great medicine. Btw I had my cholesterol and all checked while in this process. I eat a lot of beef, eggs, bacon and I like my white cake on Thursdays from Sprinkles. My cholesterol was 120 and glucose 100. 😊
Many say just keep moving. They are only half right - movement with purpose matters most - and against resistance at times - whether it be weights or hills and it needs to be on your feet. You can’t train for the big dance sitting on your pants.
Life is long - keep yourself in a good place. Laughter and music are also great medicine. Keep them in your life everyday.
Stay a kid as long as you can and I say it often - you are not fully healed until you are doing the things you enjoy doing and mostly forgotten your injury and pain. I will run again. Kids run. Old people walk. There is hardly anything better than the liberating feeling of both feet off the ground and the wind going through your hair.
My biggest challenge will be water skiing again. That will be a bit tougher but when I do that then I know I am healed and oh what a feeling that will be.
Don’t let that old man in. Stay a kid. Others have it much harder. I am very blessed. The sunrise looks amazing.
Thanks for staying with me. All prayers appreciated.

Have you tried every chair and desk setup but still dealing with low back pain?

It might not be just your posture or workstation. A recent study found that fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety, and nighttime pain were also strongly linked to how disruptive low back pain feels. 😴

Managing back pain at work goes beyond ergonomics. Your energy, sleep quality, stress, and daily pain patterns all play a big role. ⚡

🦶 Not all heel pain is the same.

Many people assume heel pain automatically means plantar fasciitis, but that’s not always the case. Different types of heel pain can feel similar, yet come from very different causes.

Why does this matter? Because the right treatment depends on the right diagnosis. What helps one type of heel pain may not help another at all.

👉 Check out this infographic to learn the key differences and see what might be driving your heel pain. https://chiroup.short.gy/wnvDUb

🤯 What if your back pain isn’t caused by “tight” muscles?

We’ve all been there, your back hurts, so you try to stretch it out. But if stretching isn’t giving lasting relief, there’s a reason.

A recent study found that people with chronic low back pain had less stiffness in a deep back muscle, the quadratus lumborum, than those without pain.

Pain doesn’t always mean a muscle is too tight. Often, the muscle is underactive or does not adequately support your spine. Stretching a muscle that’s already loose or weak could make things worse.

At our clinic, we look beyond the “tight” feeling to see what’s really happening. Sometimes the solution isn’t more stretching, it’s more stability and targeted strength. 💪

🌀 Is your neck pain changing the way you walk?

It might sound strange, but your neck plays a big role in your balance and coordination.

Research shows that people with chronic neck pain often exhibit greater variability in their walking patterns, especially when multitasking or turning their heads. Your nervous system has to work harder just to keep you steady.

When your neck is stiff or painful, it sends “fuzzy” signals to your brain, making movement feel less smooth and less confident. By improving neck function, we help your nervous system communicate better so you can move with ease.

😬 Do you experience jaw clicking, facial tension, or “mysterious” headaches? You may have been told to use a mouthguard, but that’s often just one piece of the puzzle.

Recent studies show that non-invasive care, including hands-on treatment and exercises, can be very effective for reducing orofacial pain. Your jaw and upper neck work together as a single system, so treating just the jaw might miss the root cause.

A thorough assessment of neck movement and muscle coordination can guide much more effective care. Book an appointment with us today, and we’ll help you find lasting relief from tension and discomfort!

🏃‍♂️ Can running really help chronic low back pain?

A recent study says yes, especially for the mental side of pain. Adults with chronic low back pain who did a gradual run–walk program for 12 weeks saw improvements in mood, stress, and how much they worried about their pain. They were less likely to expect the worst, even if anxiety itself didn’t change much. 🧠

The takeaway: movement like running may help change how pain is experienced, not just how the back feels physically.

📈 Ever heard of the 10% rule?

It’s one of the simplest ways to avoid setbacks when returning to activity.

The idea is simple: don’t increase your activity by more than about 10% per week above what your body is used to. So if you normally walk 10 minutes, try 11 next time — not 20.

Whether you’re coming back from an injury or starting a new workout, doing too much too soon can overload your body. Small, steady increases give your muscles, joints, and nervous system time to adapt safely.

The goal isn’t to do more as fast as possible — it’s to progress without flare-ups.

👉 Check out this infographic to see how the 10% rule can help you stay active, build capacity, and avoid unnecessary setbacks. https://chiroup.short.gy/TMQ3OG
