This is uncomfortable to say.

Our dog food pantry is empty.
Not low. Empty.

That hasn’t happened in a long time.
Any brand. Any size. Dry dog food. (Dry cat food helps too.)

One bag keeps a dog or cat in their home with the family who loves them…. Instead of the shelter.

Drop of at the dog or cat shelter.
Or send from our wish list.

Let’s fix this.

It’s Thanksgiving, but we know that it can be hard to feel grateful some days.

If practicing gratitude feels hard today, remember that if all you can feel grateful for is the next moment, that’s enough.

Take it moment by moment. 🍂

This year has been full of both blessings and hardships, I know that's true for many of us. I hope that today, and everyday, you're able to take a look around and find something or someone to be grateful for. For me, it's been my community, from my supportive inner network to the community in Maysville and the surrounding areas. I'm truly grateful for everyone who has believed in what I have to offer and spread the word, provided space for me, allowed me to support them, and supported me in return. I'm truly proud of what AYA Mental Health has become, and am so excited for what's coming. Thank you all! I hope that even through the hardships, something brings you warmth today. 🤎

Mental Health Mythbusters 🤯
A common misconception about mental health conditions is that they can't or won't affect a specific person or child. The reality is that struggles with mental health can affect anyone. Mental health conditions have nothing to do with being lazy or weak. There are many factors that contribute to our mental health, such as biological factors, life experiences, physical illnesses, social situations, and brain chemistry, to name a few. The good news is that most people with mental health conditions improve with the right care, and many are on the path to recovery. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out for support. 988 is a hotline you can text or call in emergencies. If you feel like nobody gets it and you need some extra support as we move into the winter and holiday season, reach out. I'm happy to help. 💚 www.ayamh.com

Introducing Mental Health Mythbusters 🤯
I'm going to start posting on Thursday evenings about different mental health topics that have common misconceptions. The goal of this series is to decrease stigma and raise awareness about mental health topics.

This week's topic is ADHD.

There are a lot of common misconceptions about ADHD. I recently read a fascinating article talking about the positive impact that treating ADHD has on the outcomes of children and adults. The article highlights some promising research by the British Medical Journal that found a significant decrease in self harm and suicidal behaviors, substance misuse, criminality, transport accidents, and accidental injury when ADHD is treated in comparison to untreated ADHD. The goal of treatment is always least invasive measures first, so with young kids we always start with therapy.. but sometimes therapy alone isn't quite enough to help the individual have a sense of control. That's where medication helps. Often we can medicate for a period of time and use therapy to gain the skills needed for the individual to be able to be successful and control their impulses without medication down the road. Medication doesnt mean a pill forever. Medication won't make you or your child a "zombie" and that is never the goal. Working with a provider who knows and values you or your child and their unique qualities and personality, allows that provider to notice and make adjustments if personality changes present themselves.

Here is the article if you've made it this far and are interested in learning more. 💖
