Today we recognize World Stroke Day. 💙
Many of our members are stroke survivors living with aphasia — and every day, they show what strength, hope, and connection look like.

Together, we can raise awareness, support recovery, and remind others that life after stroke is full of possibility.

‘Not yet.’ Two simple words that became Paul and Karen’s mantra. 💙
After Paul’s stroke and aphasia diagnosis, they chose to face each challenge with patience, strength, and hope — finding beauty in the process and joy in every step forward.

Thank you to Veolia for supporting Adler Aphasia Center’s Education and Outreach programs! 💙

Our members recently spoke with Physician Assistant students at Seton Hall University, sharing their experiences and helping future healthcare professionals learn more about aphasia and communication support.

We’re grateful for partnerships that make education and awareness possible.

Our Aphasia Education Program brings members and their families together to learn tips and strategies for connection. For many participants, when they are diagnosed is the first time they’ve heard the word ‘aphasia.’ These sessions build understanding, create friendships, and remind us that communication is about so much more than words.

Meet Karen and Paul Poretzky. 💙 Their journey with stroke and recovery began suddenly one night in May, and together they’ve faced every challenge since.

Karen trusted her instincts, acted quickly, and got Paul the care he needed. That moment marked the beginning of their path with Adler Aphasia Center—a journey they continue to walk together.

The Adler Aphasia Center community came together for a family potluck filled with great food, laughter, and connection. 💙

We were honored to welcome Senator Gordon Johnson and are so grateful for his continued support of the Center and the aphasia community.

Pictured here: Caregiver Susan (husband Kumar not pictured), Senator Gordon Johnson, member Javed, CEO Naomi Gewirtz, member Letty, her husband Jeff, and their son Charlie — a reminder that aphasia can affect people of all ages and that every family’s journey is unique.

Hannah knows just how to support Javed—using photos, maps, and written words to keep the conversation flowing. And Javed makes sure to support Hannah too (he never lets her skip a meal!).

We’re proud to celebrate Sara Laird, one of our talented Speech-Language Pathologists in Toms River, who has been awarded ASHA’s Distinguished Early Career Professional (ECP) Certificate! 🎉

This highly selective honor recognizes professionals making a meaningful impact in audiology and speech-language pathology through leadership, volunteering, and advocacy.

Sara’s commitment shines through her work at Adler Aphasia Center, her involvement with Aphasia Access, and her mentorship of graduate students. Her efforts have been instrumental in the growth of our Toms River program—and in shaping the future of our field. Congratulations, Sara!
