This is why we choose to take care of our patients at DHR Women’s Hospital, the highest level of maternity care.

After delivering her first child, Paola Taborda went into cardiac arrest and was placed on the advanced ECMO machine, a treatment that saved her life. Thanks to this life-saving support, Paola had the chance to recover and experience motherhood for the first time.

Her journey reflects the critical difference that access to ECMO can make when it matters the most. Our program was launched to give patients with heart and lung failure an advanced level of support for life-threatening moments like these. For Paola, it meant returning home and holding her baby in her arms.

DHR Health is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley currently offering comprehensive ECMO services, ensuring that patients have access to high quality care close to home. Families and individuals across our region can trust that we are prepared for any situation, guided by our experts and supported through advanced technology.

DHR is the first and only designated Level IV Maternal Facility in the Rio Grande Valley, recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This prestigious designation reflects their unmatched ability to manage the most complex maternal cases, and highlights the dedication and expertise that goes into every birth.

👩‍⚕️ A proud JLM sustainer, Dr. Almonte has dedicated over 16 years to serving women across the RGV through private practice, offering expert care in complex gynecological conditions and maternal health — including to many of our very own members!

🏥 She’s a trailblazer in medicine — a former Chief of Staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, current Chief of Women’s Services at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, and a member of the Texas Women’s Health Committee. Her accolades include Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery & Minimally Invasive Gynecology.
