MEASLES OUTBREAK UPDATE
With the recent rise in measles cases across Texas, we want to share important information about symptoms, treatment, and prevention to help keep your children safe.

Measles is an extremely contagious airborne virus that can result in severe complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and even blindness. Early symptoms often include fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea, and small white spots inside the mouth. A widespread rash typically appears 3-5 days after symptoms begin. There is no specific antiviral treatment for measles; care focuses on managing fever, maintaining hydration, and isolating the individual until recovery.

Vaccination is the best protection against measles. The CDC recommends routine MMR vaccination at 12 months and again at 4 years of age. In an outbreak, infants as young as 6 months may need an early dose, but they will still require the standard shots at 1 and 4 years old.

At this time, there is no widespread measles activity in our local counties, and early vaccination is not currently recommended for any age group. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if recommendations change.

Germ of the Week: Influenza

Influenza season is still upon us, and we're seeing a significant rise in cases this week. 🤧 If your child shows any symptoms of the flu—such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, or even vomiting and diarrhea—please don't hesitate to bring them in to our office. Early treatment can make all the difference in their recovery.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month!

Did you know that the HPV vaccine is a powerful tool in the fight against cervical cancer? By targeting the HPV strains that cause most cervical cancers, the vaccine provides strong protection.

Vaccine Schedule for Adolescents:
➡️Ages 9-14: Two doses, with the second dose given 6-12 months after the first.
➡️Ages 15-26: Three doses, with the second dose given 1-2 months after the first, and the third dose given 6 months after the first.
