What should someone do after a full one-body hour massage?

After a full one-hour body massage, the body continues processing the effects of the treatment. Muscles have relaxed, circulation has increased, and metabolic waste products are moving through the lymphatic system. What someone does afterward can help extend the benefits of the massage and prevent soreness.

Here are the best things to do after a massage:

💧 1. Drink Plenty of Water
Massage stimulates circulation and the lymphatic system, helping move metabolic waste out of the muscles. Drinking water helps your body flush those substances out more efficiently.

Tip:
Drink a glass or two of water within the first hour after your massage.

🚶 2. Move Gently
Light movement helps maintain the mobility gained during the session.

Examples:

A short walk

Gentle stretching

Easy mobility movements

Avoid intense workouts immediately afterward.

🛀 3. Take a Warm Shower or Bath
Warm water helps muscles stay relaxed and can enhance circulation even more.

You can add:

Epsom salts

Magnesium flakes

This can reduce post-massage soreness.

🧘 4. Relax and Let Your Body Recover
Your nervous system has shifted into a parasympathetic (rest and repair) state.

If possible:

Rest

Take a short nap

Avoid stressful activity

🍎 5. Eat a Light, Healthy Meal
A balanced meal supports recovery.

Good choices:

Fruits and vegetables

Lean protein

Whole grains

Avoid heavy, greasy meals right after a massage.

⚠️ 6. Expect Possible Mild Soreness
Especially if it was a deep tissue or trigger point session, mild soreness may appear within 24 hours.

This is normal and similar to post-exercise soreness.

Helpful remedies:

Hydration

Light stretching

Warm shower

Gentle movement

🚫 7. Avoid These Immediately After
Try not to do these right after a massage:

Intense workouts

Alcohol

Heavy meals

Long stressful activities

Give your body a few hours to integrate the work.

💡 Tip you can share with your clients (great for social media or handouts):

“The massage doesn’t end when you leave the table. What you do afterward helps your body hold the results.”

Things I can do to prepare for my first massage

Preparing for your first massage can make the experience much more relaxing and enjoyable. Since you’re about to receive a professional session, here are some simple things you can do beforehand to get the most benefit.

1. Hydrate 💧
Drink water before your massage.
Massage increases circulation and helps release tension in muscles, and being hydrated helps your body process that more comfortably.

2. Eat Lightly 🍎
Avoid a heavy meal right before your session.
A light snack 1–2 hours beforehand is best so you’re comfortable lying on the table.

3. Arrive a Little Early ⏰
If possible, arrive 10–15 minutes early so you can:

Fill out any intake forms

Discuss injuries or sore areas

Relax your mind before the session begins

4. Communicate with Your Therapist 🗣️
Tell your therapist about:

Pain or tight areas

Old injuries

Pressure preference (light, medium, deep)

Any medical conditions

Good communication helps them tailor the massage to your body.

5. Wear Comfortable Clothing 👕
Loose clothing makes it easier to change and relax before and after the session.

6. Shower if You Can 🚿
A quick shower before a massage can:

Help muscles relax

Make you feel more comfortable

Enhance the overall experience

7. Relax Your Mind 🧠
Try to arrive with a calm mindset.
Silence your phone and treat the session as time dedicated to your body and recovery.

8. Don’t Worry About Anything Else
Professional massage therapists maintain proper draping and privacy, so you are always covered and comfortable.

✅ Bonus Tip:
After your massage, drink water and take it easy for a few hours so your body can fully enjoy the benefits.

DON'T MISS APRIL'S FULL PINK MOON! 🌕🌸

Tomorrow night, April 1, the sky will glow with the beautiful Pink Moon—the first full moon of spring. Despite its name, the Moon won’t actually turn pink; it’s named after the seasonal bloom of wildflowers like creeping phlox that signal the arrival of spring.

For centuries, different cultures gave this moon names inspired by nature waking up—melting ice, flowing streams, and the return of wildlife. It’s a powerful reminder that winter has passed and a new season has begun.

This full moon also holds special significance as it helps determine the date of Easter each year, making it even more meaningful for many around the world. And interestingly, it falls on April Fools’ Day this time—just a fun coincidence in the calendar!

Take a moment tomorrow night to step outside, look up, and enjoy the calm beauty of the night sky. 🌙
