Good morning. Happy Saturday and Happy Women’s day. Many of us are unaware that today- 8th March is International Women's Day. Let’s find out more about IWD.

In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights.

In 1909, a "Women's Day" was organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City

In 1910, during second International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen, Clara Zetkin proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day - a Women's Day - to press for their demands.

In 1911, International Women's Day was honored for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

In 1977, it became a mainstream global holiday following its promotion by the United Nations.

March 8 has been traditionally recognised as the day for International Women's Days by the UN for women's rights and world peace.

In the USA, March is Women's History Month. A presidential proclamation issued every year honours the achievements of American women.

IWD 2025 campaign theme is 'Accelerate Action'.

Today, we should celebrate all the achievements of women, including those in the social, economic, cultural and political realms. This day also marks a call to action when it comes to working towards achieving gender equality.
