NASW-DC Chapter Names Cynthia Catchings as Board President
Washington, D.C., July 1 – NASW-DC Chapter welcomes social justice leader, mental health advocate, Psychotherapist, and international social worker Cynthia V. Catchings. Today, she becomes its board president for the 2022-2024 term. A seasoned nonprofit and clinical executive and board leader, Catchings brings more than 15 years of leadership experience with mission-driven, justice-focused organizations, most recently serving as Executive Director of the Women’s Emotional Wellness Center and Consulting Firm in the DC metro area and Texas, whose mission is to educate, empower, and help women and families. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas-RGV and a member of the Council of Experts with Talkspace. Prior to that, she led a Collective Impact initiative and a family violence shelter, served as a supervisor for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and led other social workers as the NASW-TX region 11 board representative.
Cynthia’s deep experience in the social work sector, social research in over 45 countries, and passionate advocacy for social justice and human rights are perfectly aligned with the NASW-DC vision.
“I see the potential to unify the efforts of the DC chapter’s social workers and other social services agencies' representatives to create change. That is why I am excited to be appointed as the NASW DC chapter’s new president – an organization at the forefront of inspiring and supporting service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence. I am thankful for the opportunity to join and lead this effort.”
