Your locally owned pharmacies are and will continue to struggle until the PBM’s are regulated. Our own pharmacist, Steven works 60-70+ hours a week to make sure he is watching each transaction and not losing more money on each prescription so he can keep his doors open, employee staff and take care of his customers.
Alabama just past a PBM reform to regulate the power of PBM’s and other states are doing the same. Mississippi for some reason will not …
Coped from Fair Pender Jones (a local Mississippi pharmacist): Jason White, you say that we are a priority, and you say that you care about us. But do you really? Or did you just say you do to save face and not look unsympathetic to all of Mississippi?
We’ve shown you example after example of how independent pharmacies are slowly dying day after day. We’ve shown you the numbers, the dollars, the data. We’ve shown you the unfairness and the greed and the corruptness. We’ve cried and yelled and begged and bargained. Are you listening??
This week alone we’ve been called “sympathetic combatants” in a cartel-like fight. We’ve been told that we are looking for a bail out. We’ve been told that we aren’t hurting financially because some pharmacists drove cars that aren’t pieces of garbage. We’ve been ridiculed and mocked and laughed at.
We’ve had to sit by, working 60 hours a week and watch all of the legislative sessions online, instead of being there in person, because we can’t afford to not work for one day. We’ve watched as big business and big lobbyists and big money have wined and dined you this week, undoubtedly filling your head with misinformation and half truths.
You, Mr. Speaker, knew what amendments were added to this bill when it came back to the House. And I have a hard time believing that it would have EVER made it back to the House if you didn’t agree to them. So, for me, YOU are the one that can make this right. YOU are the one who holds all of the power. YOU can draw YOUR line in the sand and let Mississippians know where your true loyalties lie… because my line has been drawn, and anything less than HB1123 AS IS is not enough, and we will fight for it and our livelihoods until there’s nothing left to fight for.
**If you love an independent pharmacy, please call Jason White’s office and ask him to CONCUR with HB1123 today. Please. ❤️
