Not only are we fortunate to have the support of our local organizations, but we are also grateful to have the support of local individuals and families. Meet Dean Stewart of South Fayette. Dean and his wife Roberta have been generous supporters of our cemetery. Dean, a US Veteran, approached us last summer asking if he could fix any veteran flag holders that needed repaired. A lot of the flag holders become stripped or loosened as a result of the constant wind. With the blessing of the McDonald American Legion, cemetery workers located, tagged and collected flag holders a dozen at a time that Dean would then pick up and take to his home for repairs. Upon returning, another dozen would be ready to go while the repaired holders were carefully returned to their original gravesites. Dean wrapped up his project just in time for the Memorial Day flag placement. He repaired over 400 flag holders for our veterans and covered the cost of all necessary materials.
We would like to thank Dean for his time, generosity and effort for our veterans. He and Roberta are truly inspiring and incredible people!

Members of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department visited this morning and instead of battling flames, they bravely battled the wind to place memorial flags on the graves of over 200 of their members who are laid to rest here. As usual, a job well done!!

Many thanks to Justin Amsler and the McDonald Presbyterian Church Youth Group who arrived after the storm this evening to place flags on the graves of our many veterans for Memorial Day with guidance from a few of the cemetery officers. We have always been fortunate to have the amazing support of our community! Thanks again to everyone involved!

As of 2024, Killdeer are now considered a near threatened species. The cemetery has always been a popular place for them to nest, especially around the flush (flat) markers, among flowers or just out in the open next to a recently fallen stick from a tree. Please be cautious if you come upon a nest and please try not to disturb them. If you get too close, they will alert you by pretending to be injured. Also, please use caution when driving through the cemetery as the little ones love to run on the roads and often blend in with their surroundings. Unfortunately, we have had a few recently hit by vehicles.
