Today we highlight the importance of HIV education, testing, prevention, and support in Native communities. This observance encourages awareness of how HIV impacts American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian individuals — and the role we all play in ending stigma and supporting health.

District 4 Public Health offers HIV testing and support services for our community — early testing helps protect you and your loved ones.

🎗️ March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States? The good news is that screening can help prevent colorectal cancer or detect it early—when treatment is most effective.

Take control of your health:

✔️ Get screened – Screening is recommended starting at age 45 (or earlier if you’re at higher risk). Talk with your doctor about options like Cologuard, FIT tests, or a colonoscopy.
✔️ Know your risk – Learn about your family history and risk factors.
✔️ Eat healthy – Focus on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
✔️ Stay active – Regular exercise can help lower your risk.

Protecting your home starts from the ground up! 🏡 Did you know your septic system needs regular attention? It's recommended to have your septic system inspected every 3 years, and typically pumped every 3-5 years. If you have an alternative system with mechanical parts, yearly inspections are key!

Factors like household size, wastewater volume, and tank size all impact how often you should pump. Regular maintenance can save you a lot of headaches (and money!) in the long run.
