My Mommy Guide

My Mommy Guide Moms on Call Trained Consultant and Childbirth Educator. My passion is empowering parents to feel confident in early parenthood. How can I calm my baby?

My name is Linda and I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Georgia State University in 2006 and have a wide range of experience from Medical-Surgical, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery and School Nursing. My passion is empowering new parents to feel confident and prepared in delivering their baby and in the every day care of their newborn. As a mother of two boys, I've experienced the insecurities and struggles that a new mommy goes through. I remember questioning myself constantly and being unsure and fearful. How do I know if my baby is eating enough? How do I get my baby to sleep longer at night? How do I schedule my day? The Moms on Call book was such a relief for me. Simple, easy to read, and real advice from trusted pediatric nurses right here in Atlanta. I've given the book away to friends who have also benefited and love the Moms on Call method! Moms are given advice from all directions - mommy blogs, TV, magazines, family and friends, or even that well-meaning stranger at the grocery store. Let me help support you to be the parent YOU want to be.

Transitioning to Whole Milk ✨
Today we are covering information for families that are planning to transition to
whole milk at 12 months. By this point your little one has had dairy items. For example: yogurt, ice cream, cheese and other milk products.
Even if you are nursing you can begin to introduce them to whole milk at mealtimes in sippy cups.
The actual times to offer the sippy cup are outlined in the typical days section of the book series/online courses and in the MOC scheduler App.
About 1 week prior
Day 1: Sippy cups have 3 ounces of formula/breast milk and 1 ounce of whole milk.
Day 2: Sippy cups have 2 ounces of formula/breast milk and 2 ounces of whole milk.
Day 3: Sippy cups have 1 ounce of formula/breast milk and 3 ounces of whole milk.
Day 4: Sippy cups have all whole milk.
Remember:
*At 12 months their nutritional needs change from liquids as their primary source of nutrition. About 12-16 oz of dairy a day is sufficient.
*They may seem disinterested at first. It is okay! It is new and unfamiliar.
*Do not force it.
*Stay calm and confident. They will figure this out.

True labor Labor begins when the uterus (the muscle that holds the baby) contracts and causes your cervix to soften and dilate. These contractions occur in regular intervals and become gradually stronger and closer together. False labor Your uterus may do some practice before the big event by contracting off and on. These irregular contractions are known as Braxton Hicks. They may become more frequent and more noticeable the more movement you make throughout the day. [ 221 more words ]

Car Safety Properly installing and using your car seat will help keep your baby safe. The AAP recommends that all infants ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are at least 2 years old. The best car eat is the one that fits your baby’s size, is correctly installed, fits well in your own car, and is used properly. If you are expecting, take time to familiarize yourself with the installation and use of your car seat before baby comes. [ 537 more words ]

After delivery, there are a series of tests that your baby will undergo before being discharged home with you. Some of these screenings vary a little depending on which state you live in, but the concept remains the same. Hearing Test Why: Hearing loss may not be noticed by caregivers until the baby is much older. Screening for congenital hearing loss leads to early interventions that help baby and family with communication skills. [ 331 more words ]

White Noise White noise is produced when all the different frequencies of sound heard by the human ear come together at the same time. Think of sitting at a crowded baseball stadium or concert with thousands of people around you and their collective voices sound like a jumbled roar. The picture that comes to my mind when I hear the word is the "snow screen" we used to see on our old TV screens. [ 384 more words ]
