Tomorrow, September 17, is World Patient Safety Day! The 2025 theme is “Safe care for every newborn and every child,” emphasizing that patient safety starts from the very beginning.

🩺 At McGehee Hospital, we believe that safety and care go hand-in-hand — especially when it comes to our littlest patients. So here are a few thoughtful tips & reminders that every parent, grandparent & caregiver should know:

🔍 What you can do:

Keep up with infant check-ups and vaccinations
Early newborn screenings, immunizations, and pediatric wellness checks aren’t just routine — they help catch small issues before they become big ones.

Ask questions — always
If something doesn’t feel right at the hospital, clinic, or home, speak up. Doctors, nurses, and staff want to hear your concerns. You are part of the care team.

Safe sleeping practices

Always put babies on their backs to sleep.

Keep the crib free from loose bedding, pillows, or soft toys.

Make sure the mattress is firm and fits snugly.

Know your support system

🎯 Fun fact: Did you know that a lot of avoidable infant health risks are reduced simply by making small, consistent safety habits part of daily life? Things like ensuring car seats are installed correctly, keeping cords and choking hazards out of reach, and maintaining clean environments (wash hands often!) all count.
