"Name the Creature" writing contest at the McGregor Library! Local artist Jena Kreul created the creature ♥️

Give this creature a name and a story (using any form of writing you like: poetry, short story, song, etc)

Entries will be accepted until February 28th. Contest is open to all ages. Winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to local merchant of their choice.

Submissions may be mailed to: McGregor Public Library, P.O. Box 398, McGregor, IA 52157, or dropped in the McGregor Library dropbox outside the library.

Do you have old sewing patterns and/or fabric you no longer need?

The McGregor Library would love donations for the Sewing Foundations program for 6th grade–H.S. homeschool students.

Your gently used patterns and materials will be put to great use—and appreciated by the students! (The students are working on sewing from now through March)

Distant Sons was the 2025 All Iowa Reads choice.

Looking for something fun for the kids? Come to our Happy Noon Year countdown! If you can't make it from 10:30 - Noon, the games and activities will be available for self guided fun on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, 12-5 on Tuesday, December 30th, and 12-2:30 on Wednesday, December 31st.

McGregor Public Library ~ Books & Baskets ~ Silent Auction going on now!

The first bids have started to come in! The McGregor Public Library received 22 amazing gift baskets/gifts so far for the 19th annual Books & Baskets Silent Auction.
You may bid at the library anytime we are open. More baskets are coming.
Bids can also be made online by private messaging me on Facebook. Whenever bids are made online, I will update the bid sheets inside the library the next time I'm here.
Thank you to everyone who made, put together, and donated these gifts! (The Books & Baskets Silent Auction continues until Saturday, Dec. 20th)

The McGregor Public Library welcomed a new shelter pavilion and outdoor furniture last week, made possible by a generous grant from the Upper Mississippi Gaming Corporation.

This project came together thanks to matching funds from Leo Keenan memorials from family and friends, a donation from Craig and LeAnn Watson, proceeds from the annual McGregor Library Book Sale, a contribution from the McGregor Public Library Foundation, volunteer hours from Thomas Sinclair, and a donation from Pat’s Electric.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this outdoor space to life. Once warmer weather arrives, the pavilion will host programs, gatherings, and everyday use.

In the meantime, come use the furniture inside the library, and view the beautiful shelter outside ❤ (some additional photos in the comments)
