Our compassionate team is passionate about helping our residents experience an improved quality of life. Great River Care Center was built in 1972 by John R and Zelda Z Grubb who saw the need for such a facility in the McGregor area. Grubb contacted Health Care of Iowa to professionally manage Great River Care Center. On November 1, 2021, Great River Care Center was purchased by Edgewood Convalescent Home and continues to be professionally managed by Health Care of Iowa. Great River Care Center is a 39-bed, 24-hour skilled nursing facility. We offer both private and semi-private accommodations. Each resident room is furnished with a bed, bedside dresser and closet. We encourage all residents who reside here to personalize their rooms with pictures, mementos and other items to make for a homey atmosphere. In other words, we want our residents to feel at home and their visitors to feel comfortable. In 2006, Turner Pointe Assisted Living, associated with Great River Care Center, opened their beautiful 9 apartment facility. Turner Pointe Assisted Living is one of few Assisted Living Communities that has a nurse on site 24 hours per day / 7 days per week, which allows for the highest level of care to be provided in your home setting, including in-house physician visits and lab services. This allows us to assist you in maintaining your independence for a much longer time and remain in your private assisted living apartment. If the time comes that more care is needed than can be provided in our Assisted Living Community, Great River Care Center can be the next step in our continuum of care. Our comprehensive care facility houses two distinct services: Rehabilitation and traditional Long Term Care. Transportation is provided for our residents of both Great River Care Center and Turner Pointe Assisted Living. Our residents are treated to field trips, shopping excursions and even river cruises!
