Q: What is PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin)?:
A: PRF is a “next-gen” kind of treatment using components from your own blood. It includes platelets, fibrin scaffold, growth factors, sometimes leukocytes and stem-cell-type signals.
Q: How does PRF work:
A: A small amount of your blood is drawn in office. It’s centrifuged slowly to separate out the PRF without adding anticoagulants. This lets the fibrin clot/form naturally.
The fibrin matrix holds and gradually releases growth factors (like PDGF, VEGF etc.), encourages angiogenesis (new blood vessels), stimulates fibroblasts, collagen and elastin production. Because it’s autologous (from your own body), risk of immune reaction or rejection is essentially zero.
Q: What are the potential benefits of PRF?
A: So many benefits:
Skin Rejuvenation / Anti-Aging:
Improves skin texture, tone, reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Builds up collagen and elastin, giving firmer, more youthful skin.
Under-Eye Improvement:
Can reduce dark circles, puffiness, hollowness under the eyes. Makes skin under the eyes look more rested.
Subtle Volume Enhancement:
PRF doesn’t act exactly like filler, but in some cases when processed as a “gel” (e.g. PRF gel), it gives slight volume or plumping effect. More importantly, it improves skin health so volume loss looks less pronounced.
Hair Restoration:
When injected into the scalp, PRF may help stimulate hair follicles, increase hair thickness, slow down hair loss.
Healing & Minimal Risk:
Because it uses your own blood, there’s lower risk of allergic reaction or foreign-body issues. Some mild swelling, bruising etc., but fewer complications than synthetic fillers or more invasive procedures.
Longevity of Effects:
The effects (improved texture, skin tone, etc.) tend to develop over weeks/months as tissue regenerates. Some patients report benefits lasting ~6-12 months or more, especially with follow-up treatments.
