Senior Student Spotlight: Gabriella Olivero

I grew up in Moon Township and began my nursing journey at Robert Morris University after high school. Although I stepped away from the program for a few years, my passion for the medical field never faded. After eight years, I returned to nursing school determined to fulfill a goal I’ve held since I was young, becoming a nurse.

I’m deeply empathetic and passionate about caring for others, always striving to bring comfort and a smile to patients during some of their most difficult moments. The ICU has always held a special place in my heart, and I hope to work in that setting after graduation, ideally with Heritage Valley or Allegheny General Hospital.

Outside of school, I enjoy going to concerts and practicing yoga in my free time.

The Heritage Valley Health System School of Nursing took a step toward better health this March – literally.

As part of our department-wide step challenge, the school's faculty and staff logged an incredible 1,978,920 steps in just one month!

That's nearly 2 million steps dedicated to improving heart health, boosting endurance, and reinforcing the importance of daily movement. Regular walking is one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of heart disease, improve circulation, and support overall well-being.

At Heritage Valley’s School of Nursing, we don't just teach health – we live it.

I love to travel, being involved with our local community and spending time with my family and dog Hank. After graduation, I plan on getting my BSN and would like to work for Heritage Valley in the Emergency Department or the adult psychiatric unit.

Senior Student Spotlight: Cassandra O’Connor

I am a proud mom to my son, Finley, who is my biggest motivation and the reason I never gave up on this goal. Becoming a nurse has been a dream of mine for many years, and reaching this point means more to me than I can put into words. This journey hasn’t been easy, but balancing motherhood, school, and life has taught me resilience, determination, and the importance of showing up even on the hardest days.

After graduation, I plan to work in emergency medicine, with a strong interest in trauma care. I’m eager to continue learning, grow my skills, and gain as much hands-on experience as possible. Emergency care challenges me to think quickly, stay calm under pressure, and advocate fiercely for my patients—qualities I value both as a nurse and as a mom. I have been a tech in the emergency department for many years and I look forward to continuing in a department that means so much to me.
