New Study Highlights Link Between Forward Head Posture Correction and TMJ Disorder Improvements

We are thrilled to announce that one of our latest research projects has just been published in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (JOM)—a Q2-ranked journal. This marks the first time our CBP Non-Profit research team and colleagues from University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates have been featured in this prestigious publication, highlighting the growing recognition of posture correction in clinical care.

Key Findings
This pilot investigation on chronic TMJ Disorders (TMDs) revealed that patients who corrected Forward Head Posture (FHP) with the Cervical Denneroll® Orthotic achieved clinically superior improvements in TMJ outcomes compared to those receiving standard care alone.
Objective Posture Measurement: Forward head posture (measured by Craniovertebral Angle, CVA) was objectively assessed using PostureScreen® technology—providing accuracy, reproducibility, and clinically relevant insight into patient posture correction.
Promising Pilot Study: The study showed high patient adherence, safety, and measurable improvements in TMJ-related symptoms when FHP correction was introduced. These results strongly support the need for—and feasibility of—a larger, full-scale clinical trial.
Next Step: Building on this success, our team has already completed a larger randomized controlled trial (RCT), which is now under peer review.
Why It Matters
Forward head posture is one of the most common postural deviations linked to jaw dysfunction, neck pain, and headaches. This study suggests that addressing posture may be a critical missing link in improving chronic TMJ symptoms—a condition that affects millions worldwide.
The authors concluded:
“These preliminary findings suggest that adding FHP correction through the application of a CET orthotic might offer short-term selected benefits for chronic TMD symptoms, which would need to be confirmed in a full-scale trial.”
