It can be *REALLY* hard to reduce the amount of questions you ask kids, but this is a super important strategy to use when working with kids who have delays or difficulty communicating.

What you can do instead:
✅ Comment or narrate about what you see happening, “Look at the airplane!” “The dog is barking too loud!”

When you know children understand and can say the word/concept:

✅ For some kids, a lead in comment with wait time may be helpful, “the dog is….. (wait) barking!”
✅ Say something silly, “You are 39 years old….. (wait to see if they correct you), if not, “NO! That’s silly. You are 4 years old!”

The tongue acts like a switch for nasal breathing!

When your tongue is resting up against the palate, the only way you can breathe is in and out of the nose. 👃

If you’re noticing habitual mouth breathing, it might be helpful to check for restrictions or other factors that could be affecting your tongue’s resting posture.

“You wanna line up your toys? Okay let’s line them up?”
“You feel like dumping your toys? Let’s dump!”
“You want to look at spinning wheels up close? I can do that too!”

Why Orofacial Muscle Strengthening is Important??

Orofacial muscles include those in the face, mouth, and neck. They play crucial roles in speech, swallowing, breathing, and facial expressions. Weak orofacial muscles can lead to mouth breathing, snoring, and even sleep apnea. These conditions can significantly impact your quality of life, causing disrupted sleep, daytime fatigue, and other health complications.
