✨Horizon Highlight✨

Horizon Rehabilitation Hospital of McKinney is celebrating National Dog Month in August with the ⭐of our show! If you haven't already, meet Penny, the Chief Therapy Dog at Horizon. Penny is a Paws-itive addition to our staff, and is the heartbeat of recovery. With a tail that never stops wagging, she is a bona fide healing hero! Early on in Penny’s life, it became clear that she had a knack for sensing when people needed comfort and companionship. After completing her therapy dog training with flying colors, she took on her role as Chief Therapy Dog, and the rest is history. Every day, Penny leads the charge in lifting spirits and spreading joy to patients and staff alike. Her main job is about creating an atmosphere of calm and positivity that helps individuals facing physical and emotional challenges find strength in their recovery. When Penny is not making rounds, she enjoys long walks, playing fetch, and attending therapy dog conferences to stay up to date on the latest in health and wellness, and how to better serve her patients.

Our hearts are heavy at Horizon Rehabilitation Hospital of McKinney as we extend our deepest sympathy to all those impacted by the devastating floods in the Texas Hill Country. The loss of lives, the heartbreak of those still missing, and the displacement of so many families have deeply affected us all.

June is National Aphasia Awareness Month!�

Aphasia is an acquired communication disorder that affects a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write. However, it does not impact intelligence. It’s most commonly caused by stroke or brain injury and can also result from neurodegenerative diseases.

More than 2 million Americans are living with aphasia, yet many people have never heard of it.

Let’s change that.

Every 40 seconds.

This is how often someone in the US suffers a stroke.

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a major contributor to long-term disability in adults according to the American Stroke Assocation.

This Stroke Awareness Month, Horizon Medical Center of McKinney is committed to raising awareness about stroke prevention, risk factors, and recognizing the warning signs.

Remember the acronym FAST to identify stroke symptoms quickly:
F = Face drooping
A = Arm weakness
S= Slurred Speech
T= Time to call 911

Acting FAST can save a life!
