Ultrasound Debridement (MIST): Low-frequency ultrasound that gently cavitates and cleans the wound bed without contact.

Instillation NPWT: Combining NPWT with cyclic instillation and dwell of topical antiseptic solutions for heavily contaminated wounds.

Negative Pressure RET: Using NPWT with intermittent or variable pressure settings to enhance microdeformation and blood flow.

Sustained-Release Antimicrobials

✨ Continuous low-dose antiseptic delivery.

These advanced dressings release antimicrobial agents steadily over several days, maintaining infection control without repeated traumatic dressing changes.

They’re especially useful for chronic or high-risk wounds.

Epithelialization

✨ Keratinocytes resurface the wound.

During epithelialization, new skin cells migrate across the wound to rebuild its surface. This is the final stage of closure, creating a protective barrier that seals in healing.

A properly moist environment speeds this process dramatically.

Did you know that properly treating a skin tear can make all the difference in preventing infection and promoting faster healing?
Skin tears are incredibly common, especially in older adults or individuals with fragile skin. Even a minor bump can cause the skin to split, leaving a delicate flap that needs careful handling. That’s where the STAR Method comes in—an evidence-based approach designed to protect the skin and support optimal healing.

🌟 Skin Tear STAR Method
The STAR Method focuses on one essential principle: Save the skin flap whenever possible. The skin flap acts as a natural protective dressing, reducing pain, improving healing time, and lowering the risk of infection.

Here’s how it works:

🔹 S – Stop the bleeding
Apply gentle pressure with a clean, soft cloth or sterile gauze. Avoid anything that might stick to the wound.

🔹 T – Tear type assessment
Identify the type of skin tear and determine if the flap is viable, partially attached, or absent. This helps guide treatment.

🔹 A – Align the skin flap
Carefully realign the skin flap back into its natural position. Think of it like placing a puzzle piece back where it belongs. This step is crucial to restoring the skin barrier.

🔹 R – Reassess & secure
Once aligned, secure the flap using steri-strips or a non-adherent dressing—never tape directly onto fragile skin. The goal is protection without additional trauma.

✨ Why this matters:
Skin tears may seem minor, but without proper care they can quickly become painful, infected, or slow to heal. Using the STAR Method ensures the wound is treated gently, safely, and effectively. It’s a small action that can make a big difference in patient comfort and recovery.

At Peak Medical Wound Care, our clinicians use evidence-based techniques like the STAR Method to ensure every patient receives the highest quality of care—built on compassion, precision, and advanced wound-care standards.

If you or someone you care for experiences frequent skin tears, or if you want guidance on proper wound care, we're here to help. 💙
