When selecting home care for clients living with Alzheimer's, consider the following factors:

1. Specialized Training: Ensure caregivers have specific training in Alzheimer's and dementia care. They should understand the unique challenges and behaviors associated with these conditions.

2. Experience: Look for a care provider with a proven track record of working with Alzheimer's patients. Experience can significantly impact the quality of care.

3. Personalized Care Plans: The agency should offer individualized care plans tailored to the client's specific needs, preferences, and progression of the disease.

4. Safety Measures: Assess the home for safety and ask the agency about their protocols to prevent wandering, falls, and other common risks.

5. Communication: Caregivers should have excellent communication skills and be able to provide regular updates to family members about the client's condition and any changes.

6. Consistency: Consistency in caregivers can help build trust and a sense of stability for the patient. Inquire about their policies on maintaining consistent caregiver assignments.

7. Activities and Engagement: Quality home care should include activities that engage the client mentally and physically, tailored to their abilities and interests.

8. Support for Caregivers: The agency should offer support and resources for family caregivers, including respite care and counseling services if needed.

9. References and Reviews: Check references and read reviews from other families who have used the service. Positive feedback from others can be a good indicator of quality care.

10. Accreditation and Licensing: Ensure the agency is licensed, bonded, and accredited by relevant health care organizations, ensuring they meet established standards of care.

Evaluating these factors can help ensure that the home care chosen provides the best possible support for an individual living with Alzheimer's.

Elopement is a common behavior of an individual with Alzheimer's and Dementia.
It is very crucial and important to understand the endless posibility of risk when a person who has Alzheimer's and Dementia is trying to wander without supervision.

Risk factors:
- When an individual with Alzheimer's and Dementia suffers from confusion, agitation and restlessness, that is when they trigger themselves to elope/wander.

It is important that their family/caregiver will address this concern and will have all the necessaery precautions and preventive measures to keep them safe.

Examples of some prevention strategies are:

- Create and set up schedule to document an individual with elopement risk every 15-30mins.

- Find out if there are patterns of elopement behavior to a certain individual. Try to distinguish if it occurs ont he same time of the day? Do you notice a risk factor of elopement on the individual? This will help you reduce their chances to attempt wandering.

- Assign consistent caregivers when possible to ensure that they are aware of the elopement risk and are familiar with the resident's tendencies to wander or attempt to elope.

- Do regular assessments in a person with Alzheimer's/Dementia as well as changes in their health, behavior and emotions.

- Securing doors and windows;

- Using alarms and monitoring systems (e.i: CCTV) on exit doors to alert family/staff that there is a elopement attempt.

- Provide activities to keep them engaged;

Lastly, Communication is also a key to effectively understand an individual with Alzheimer's and Dementia for any warning signs of elopement.

Regular exercise plays a crucial role in promoting overall health and well-being, particularly for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease.

While the cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's can be challenging, incorporating physical activity into daily routines can offer numerous benefits for both the body and the mind.

Practical Tips for Incorporating Exercise:

1. Tailor Activities to Individual Preferences: Choose activities that the individual enjoys and feels comfortable with, whether it's walking, swimming, gardening, or dancing. Adapting activities to their interests and abilities can enhance motivation and compliance.

2. Start Slow and Gradually Increase Intensity: Begin with low-impact exercises and gradually increase the duration and intensity over time. Even short bouts of activity can yield significant benefits for individuals with Alzheimer's.

3. Ensure Safety: Supervise exercise sessions to ensure safety and proper form, particularly for individuals with mobility limitations or balance issues. Modify exercises as needed to accommodate individual needs and abilities.
