Dr. Unger has applied clinical interest in external manifestations of internal disease for 40 years. He is an internist with an interest in how internal disease shows up on the skin.
Dr. Unger was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he worked at the Philadelphia General Hospital dermatology clinic. He completed his residency in Boston, Massachusetts at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and Lahey Clinic department of dermatology. He finished off with a fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Unger initiated comprehensive outpatient medicine at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Annapolis, Maryland, where he held the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Unger is actively training medical students and has worked with policy makers to advocate for personalized medical care.
Dr. Unger is a melanoma survivor himself.
