Nobody talks about marriage being a business decision but believe me, it is. It’s the only family member you actually get to choose so make sure to pick a good one.

In every sense of the word.

0.48%.

That’s how much venture capital went to Black founders in 2023. The lowest recorded in recent history. 2024 was more of the same.

Stacy Spikes built MoviePass from scratch. Investors pushed him out, handed his company to someone else, and that someone drove it straight into bankruptcy. Then got charged with fraud.

And Spikes? He bought his own company back out of bankruptcy and took it profitable.

The system didn’t save him. He saved himself and lost millions of dollars in the process.

We get into the full story on this week’s episode of Married to the Startup. Link in bio to listen.

I’m like 90% sure that all your joints popping during movement is a good sign. If you know something different, don’t tell me.

Cheers to being slightly delusional as we age.

Anything worth doing requires work. Hard work.

I love building businesses. I love lifting weights. I love this brand, this podcast, these kids.

And every single one of those things has handed me days I wanted to quit.

Love doesn’t make it easy. Love makes it worth sludging through cement when you want to give up.

And those are two completely different things.

The quote was supposed to be inspiring, but what it actually did was set a lot of people up to feel like something was wrong with them when it got hard. Like if you really loved it, it wouldn’t feel like work.

That’s not reality. Not in fitness. Not in entrepreneurship. Not in marriage. Not in motherhood.

The hard days don’t mean you’re in the wrong place. Sometimes they mean you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Comment WORK and I’ll send you the link to my next founders call.

On another note, we cracked the 1000 subscriber mark on YT which is interesting to me. There were no aspirations when we started this podcast so it’s a nice affirmation that our content is useful to some people.

Also, we pick up our baby chicks 🐤 in March. Stay tuned for chickens on the pod.
