May is Mental Health Awareness Month – and at Artis, we know that supporting our residents means supporting the families and caregivers who love them, too.

Caregiving is meaningful work. It's also emotionally demanding in ways that are easy to minimize and hard to sustain alone. Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults are currently caring for a loved one – and many are doing so without much support of their own.

What do you get when you combine the Power of Moms with the Power of Play? One extra beautiful and meaningful Mother’s Day at Artis!

At our Sound Connection Studio signature event, the sons, daughters, and grandchildren who love them gathered to create colorful windchimes in an experience centered on sound, listening, and strengthening family bonds.

The gentle sounds of chimes ringing out are a gift of love that keeps on giving!🎐💙

In May, we celebrate moms – like Nancy, mother of five, grandmother of eight, and resident at Artis of Reading in Pennsylvania. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Nancy studied Child Psychology at Boston University.

Equal parts homemaker and avid traveler, she took a cross-country train to visit California and Florida, and traveled abroad to Sweden, England, Scotland, France, Austria, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Vietnam, Japan, China, Portugal, and Spain. She also played the piano and sang in several choral groups.

Today at Artis, she loves welcoming her family to visit, sharing her warm sense of humor, watching UConn basketball, eating pizza and doing puzzles.
