We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a licensed mental health counselor who was killed this week in a violent incident at her place of work in Winter Park, Florida. A current client was also injured and is expected to survive.

Although she was not an FCA member, this loss
impacts our entire counseling community. It is a painful reminder of both the vulnerability inherent in our profession and the courage it takes to show up daily for others in their most difficult moments.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, clients, and colleagues, and we hold in our thoughts all those affected by this senseless act of violence.

During this time, we encourage counselors to lean on one another and to seek support as needed. Taking care of ourselves and each other is essential. FCA remains committed to supporting clinician well-being and safety, and we will share resources on workplace safety, risk assessment, and self-care in the coming days.

May we honor her life and service through compassion, unity, and continued care for our professional community.

The world and the cost of being human can be just so heavy, which is why I repost this periodically. I have changed a few lines, as I suppose it is an evolving piece. May your spirits stay fierce and your hearts stay tender. ♥️

As we move through the Christmas season, I want to gently remind you that taking care of your mental health matters—especially during the holidays.

Boundaries can be an act of love. Rest can be productive. And choosing what feels sustainable for you is not a failure—it’s wisdom.

Wishing you a holiday season that makes space for both connection and self-compassion.

A typical day as a therapist is never actually typical. I can plan my schedule, but the work itself is always unpredictable. Some days are filled with conversations about growth, insight, and small victories. Other days hold rage, grief, and tears. Most days are a mixture of it all — the full spectrum of the human experience.

Every workday, though, is rooted in holding space for deeply human and often miraculous stories. Stories of survival, vulnerability, resilience, and hope.

As we move into the holiday season and I step into a brief pause from work, I want to gently remind everyone: not everyone looks forward to the holidays. Not everyone feels safe or settled in their daily life — whether because of personal circumstances or the weight of current events.

Kindness matters more than ever. You truly never know what someone is carrying.

The holiday season can bring joy, connection, and celebration—but it can also increase stress, expectations, and emotional overwhelm. Consistent self-care helps keep your mind and body grounded during this busy time. By intentionally taking small, daily steps to rest, recharge, and set healthy boundaries, you protect your well-being, reduce burnout, and stay connected to what truly matters. Practicing self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential for maintaining balance, managing stress, and showing up as your healthiest self throughout the holidays.
Please share as a reminder to others!

Heal in front of your kids so they learn that growth is part of being human — not a sign that something is wrong with them.

Not by pouring your struggles onto them, but by letting them witness what it looks like to pause, to reflect, to choose differently the next time.

Let them see you apologise when you need to.
Let them see you take a breath when frustration rises.
Let them see you course-correct without shame.

Because they don’t learn confidence from watching a flawless parent. They learn it from watching someone anchored enough to acknowledge their own edges without collapsing under them.

When you grow in the open, gently and responsibly, you’re not showing them your cracks — you’re showing them what self awareness looks like in motion, what integrity looks like in practice, what it means to stay in relationship even while evolving.

And that is how they learn that imperfection isn’t failure — it’s simply part of the courage of becoming. ❤️

As the days get shorter, it’s common to feel your mood shift. If you’re noticing signs of seasonal depression, small daily habits can make a big difference:
✨ Get outside for natural light whenever possible
🕯 Keep a regular sleep schedule
💬 Stay connected with supportive people
🧘 Move your body—even gentle stretching helps
🍲 Nourish yourself with regular, balanced meals

Remember, you don’t have to navigate this season alone. Reaching out for therapy or support is a sign of strength, not weakness. 💛
