April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month—a timely reminder of how important early detection can be in protecting your overall health.
Oral cancer can affect the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, and throat, and early symptoms are often easy to overlook. Persistent sores, lumps, red or white patches, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained pain in the mouth or neck should never be ignored.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specially trained to evaluate abnormalities of the mouth, head, and neck, and can perform advanced diagnostic procedures when something doesn’t look or feel right.
If you notice any symptoms that last longer than two weeks, it’s important to seek a professional evaluation. Early detection can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.
